Cyrus the Virus Slot Game

Microscopic bacteria may not seem the obvious choice for a slot game, but that is the theme of Cyrus the Virus from Yggdrasil Gaming. This is a 5 x 3 reel slot which features a collection ofluridly colored virus characters.

The images appear blank until they form a winning line, when the bacteria develop mobile facial features. A laser beam blasts them to form one of the 10 winning paylines on the reels. This gamepays out in 5 lines from left to right, and 5 from right to left.

The center reel is always the last to stop spinning so as to keep you hanging on to see if you scored a winning combo.

Going Wild

The wild symbol appears only on the center reel of this game. When it does appear, it expands to cover the entire reel, which of course boosts your winning chances. A respin is automaticallytriggered when that wild symbol shows up, which is where the chance for big wins comes into play. Without any scatter symbols, this slot is all about the wild feature.

This is the only time you can maximize your winnings. The game is therefore pretty simple and straightforward, although the animated symbols are a nice feature and add some entertainment.

Reasonable Returns

The game takes place against a nauseous green-colored backdrop, which extends the germ-y theme.  Coin limits can be set from 0.01 all the way up to 4.00, meaning that a max bet of £/€/$40 ispossible. As with many games from Yggdrasil, this slot has a high variance.

This means that you can find yourself spinning those reels for quite a while before you hit a winning line. A 96.3% return to player is reasonable, but it will often require some patient playbefore the wins start to arrive. And of course, not everybody is patient enough to wait and watch while their bankroll diminishes!

Less Than Perfect

Overall Cyrus the Virus does not match up to the best releases from the Yggdrasil studios. The game play is simple to a fault, and while this is a game that looks good on mobile devices, there isa lack of variation in the game play.

Without a bonus round, you are relying on those wilds to liven up proceedings. When they don’t show up, the game can be a little frustrating and lacking in diversity. The win both ways featuredoes boost your chances of a good win, as you can effectively win twice with the same 5 symbol line.

Lacking Variation

If you have never played a Yggdrasil slot before, then we would point you in the direction of Nirvana, Vikings go Wild or Dark Joker Rizes. All of the above offer much more in terms of inventionand playability than does Cyrus the Virus.

This is a nice looking game but unfortunately it does not reward repeated playing. After a while the lack of variation will cause most slot gamers to look elsewhere.

Yggdrasil remains one of the best gaming providers in the business, but Cyrus the Virus is not a gold-standard release.
