When it comes to bringing ancient Greek gods to slot games, Playtech are probably the first name to come to mind. Their Age of the Gods progressive jackpot series has proved hugely popular, butWMS Gaming were there first with Zeus, Zeus 1000 and Zeus III.

Back they come again to invoke the name of the greatest of all the ancient gods, as Zeus God of Thunder hits our screens. The symbols could have been taken from stone carvings on a tablet,consisting of a laurel wreath, lion, amphora, lightning flash and eagle, with Zeus himself the highest value symbol.

The game takes place against a dark, swirling sky, as though lightning is just about to break through the clouds. There is a wild symbol, the temple symbol, which only appears on the middle threereels.

Form a winning pay line with the wild, and your win is automatically doubled, and there are plenty of these around. Sometimes the ‘background’ will move to the foreground, as the cloudy sky canappear on the reels. In fact this is the scatter symbol for the game, and it unlocks a rather convoluted bonus system.

You will have noticed that there are spinning wheels of fortune above the reels. Find three, four or five scatters and you will get to spin either the 3-in-a-row, 4-in-a-row or 5-in-a-row wheel.While this is not a progressive jackpot slot, it might as well be, since you could potentially win up to 260,000 if your spin on the 5-in-a-row wheel goes right.

If you are fortunate enough to earn a spin of the wheel, you will be playing for one of the following: upgrade; random wilds; free spins or the jackpot. If you land on upgrade, that means youmove up to the next wheel (not available for the 5^th wheel, naturally).

Random wilds awards you one spin of the Wild Zeus Spins Bonus. This is a separate set of reels, where you have between 4 and 12 wilds added to reels 2 to 4. You can opt to choose the extra betsettings on this game, which would add one more wild as a minimum to each wheel. You will also find high value Zeus symbols are stacked here, to boost your chances of a big win.

If you select free spins, then you will earn 5 or 7 from the Wheel 3 (7 or 10 with extra bet active) and that could increase to a maximum of 50 on Wheel 5 (max 100 with extra bet). If you win oneof the jackpots, then you will have struck gold. How much gold very much depends on the wheel in question though. Wheel 3 offers only mini and minor jackpots. Wheel 4 is minor or major, and onWheel 5 you are spinning for the major, mega and grand prizes.

While Zeus God of Thunder may not attract the audiences of the Age of the Gods series, this is still a thundering good game with some fantastic spoils on offer.
