Betting on the 2023 Tony Awards – Odds and Picks for Who Will Win

The 76th Tony Awards ceremony is less than a week away. There have been so many great projects and performances throughout the last year, but there can only be one winner for each category.

Do you have some predictions for who will win at the 2023 Tony Awards? If so, you should head over to the top betting sites. They allow you to bet on your favorite Broadway productions and actors/actresses.

As for right now, the three available props are for Best Musical, Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical, and Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical.

As you can see, Kimberly Akimbo is heavily favored to win Best Musical.

This is an adaptation of Lindsay-Abaire’s comedy from 2001. It’s about a teenage girl who suffers from a condition that causes her to age at a very fast rate.

This musical was nominated for seven other Tony Awards this year and has already won a few from other ceremonies.

Some Like It Hot is a bit more recent, coming out in 2022. This musical has the most nominations at the Tony Awards with 13, which could give it a leg up on Kimberly Akimbo.

It dominated the 2023 Drama Desk Awards, winning all eight of its nominations. The story is about struggling jazz musicians during Prohibition, and it has performed very well.

Kimberly Akimbo and Some Like It Hot are the top two contenders for this award, so there’s a slim chance that the other three nominations win. That said, awards shows are no stranger to shocking upsets.

Since Kimberly Akimbo is a heavy favorite to win Best Musical, it’s no surprise that the leading actress is favored to win this award. Victoria Clark was the lead role and has a strong chance of winning this award.

She’s already won a few similar awards from other ceremonies, including the Lucille Lortel Awards and Outer Critics Circle Awards.

Clark is followed by Annaleigh Ashford, who plays Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The 2023 Broadway revival of the historic musical has been nominated for seven other awards.

If Ashford were to win, she would be the first since Angela Lansbury (1979) for the same role.

The other nominees are Sara Bareilles, Micaela Diamond, and Lorna Courtney, all of whom are creeping into the longshot range.

Here are the 2023 Tony Awards odds for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical. J. Harrison Ghee is favored to win for his role as Jerry/Daphne in Some Like It Hot.

In addition to J. Harrison Ghee, Christian Borle is one of the nominees from the musical. This project drew high praise, so it’s not surprising to see two actors nominated for this award.

Josh Groban’s role as Sweeney Todd also puts him high on the list.

Only Len Cariou (1979) has won out of the previous three nominations.

Groban is followed by Ben Platt, who played Leo Frank in Parade. Brent Carver was nominated for the same role in 1999, but Martin Short (Little Me) took it home.

Brian d’Arcy James and Colton Ryan round out the list, but they seem to have slim chances of winning, given their current prices.

Now that we know where to bet on the Tony Awards let’s dive into the best bets for each available award. There’s a heavy favorite for all the awards, but that doesn’t mean you should place your bets on them.

Yes, they have high chances of winning, but you hardly get a return on your investment. For example, a $100 bet on Kimberly Akimbo to win Best Musical would win just $30.77. If you bet the same amount on Some Like It Hot to win, you would profit $330.

So, you win ten times the amount if you bet on the second-most favored option to win. I’d say that option has way more value. Some Like It Hot is the leading nominee this year, which tells us that it’s well respected already.

Things get a little trickier regarding Best Leading Actress in a Musical. No other nominee had a larger role in their musical than Victoria Clark as Kimberly Akimbo. It’s hard to argue for a longshot when the other roles just don’t have a big enough part.

The payout isn’t as enticing as a longshot, but making a small profit is better than not profiting at all.

As for the best Leading Actor in a Musical, I’m going back to an option with more value. Josh Groban had the legendary role of Sweeney Todd and should have a decent chance of winning.

It’ll be tough to beat out J. Harrison Ghee, but the payout is worth the risk.

Betting predictions and actual predictions aren’t always the same. From a betting perspective, the smart thing to do is to bet on the option that offers good value and has a strong chance of winning.

There are often scenarios where it doesn’t make sense to bet on anyone other than the favorite. The sportsbooks try to entice you by giving you crazy odds for a certain option, but that’s only because there’s a slim chance they win.

If you disregard the betting odds, you’ll have a hard time deciding between the two.

As for the Best Performance by a Leading Actor Award, you’ll see that I predict J. Harrison Ghee wins. My 2023 Tony Awards predictions have Josh Groban winning simply because of the betting value.

There aren’t any betting odds outside of the three I covered earlier. That said, we can still make some rough predictions for those awards in hopes of them coming out within the next few days or so.

A few of my favorite picks include Leopoldstadt, A Doll’s House, and Sweeney Todd, winning Best Play, Revival of a Play, and Revival of a Musical, respectively.

There’s a good chance this is your first-time betting on the Tony Awards. Most gambling action happens with a sportsbook or casino, and awards shows don’t happen every day.
