For the first time in many years, there’s an odds-on favorite to win the Giro, and BetUS is offering -450 odds. If you’re new to the site, check out this detailed BetUS review.

As good as Pogacar looks, one must keep in mind that upsets do happen in this race.

So, if you feel like an underdog might win the Grand Tour, you’re in luck – the odds for every rider other than Pogacar are incredibly attractive. The No. 2 favorite, for example, comes with odds of +450, meaning that if Geraint Thomas wins, you can win $450 on a $100 bet.

This is possible if you bet at BetUS Sportsbook, which is one of the online sportsbooks you can find. Not only does this sportsbook offer attractive odds, but it also has some lucrative bonuses you can use for Giro d’Italia betting.

For example, there’s a 150% sports bonus up to $3,750, which you can use to back your favorite Giro contestants. That ranks #1 among sportsbook welcome bonuses on our best betting sites bonuses page, so you know you’re getting good value.

Why is Tadej Pogacar Favored to Win?

The Tour of Italy odds at the top online sports betting sites seem to suggest Tadej Pogacar is going to win the Giro d’Italia in 2024. They’re giving the 2024 Giro d’Italia betting odds of just -450, which, when you do the math, means that the probability of him winning is over 80%.

If you’re wondering why that is the case, it’s because he’s one of the greatest riders of the 21st century. Even though he’s still relatively young – 25 years of age – the Slovenian rider has already won two Grand Tours.

Admittedly, both of those wins were at Tour de France, but still, no one can downplay his achievement. The reason why he has zero Giro d’Italia wins in his collection is that he’s never competed in this race. That is, until now!

Another reason why Tadej Pogacar is expected to win the 2024 Giro is that he won’t have too fierce competition in Italy. Most of the other elite riders have set their eyes on the Grand Tour in France, including Primoz Roglic, Remco Evenepoel, and others.

This, of course, doesn’t mean the 2024 Giro lineup isn’t impressive. On the contrary! As you will learn in the next section of my preview, some fantastic cyclists are coming to Italy with the intention of winning the pink jersey.

Top 2024 Giro Contenders

If Tadej Pogacar fails to win the “maglia rosa” in his first-ever Giro d’Italia race, which other rider will do it?

Judging by the odds available at BetUS, Geraint Thomas is going to be his main rival in Italy, followed by Damiano Caruso and Ben O’Connor.

Geraint Thomas (+450)

The Welshman is a true legend of professional road cycling with a cabinet full of trophies. The one that shines the most is the one he won at the Tour de France in 2018. It happened relatively recently given that he’s been competing since 2005. I don’t think he’s past his prime, although he is turning 38 in a few weeks’ time.

Damiano Caruso (+1500)

Same as Thomas, Damiano Caruso is also in his late 30s. He’s turning 37 this fall, but he’s not showing any signs of slowing down. The reason why you might not want to back the Italian is that he hasn’t done much in multi-day races in the past. In fact, his best-ever finish in a Grand Tour was the second place in the 2021 Giro.

Ben O’Connor (+1500)

Ben O’Connor is younger than Thomas and Caruso, but his cycling portfolio isn’t as impressive as theirs. The last time he competed at the Giro d’Italia, he finished 20th. However, BetUS Sportsbook thinks he’s got a decent chance of changing that this Spring.

You can back any of these Giro d’Italia contenders to stage the upset this year, or you can take a shot at a sleeper. If you’re ready to bet, head to BetUS, which is presently offering the best pricing for this race.

2024 Giro d’Italia Prediction

So, who will win the 2024 Giro d’Italia? Unless the Giro 2024 startlist changes dramatically, Tadej Pogacar should have an easy job winning the pink jersey in Italy this May. He’s, by far, the best rider competing in this year’s Giro.

Not only does he have the skills and physique needed to win this race, but the Slovenian also has the motivation needed to win the Giro. As he’s never competed in this race before, winning it on his debut would be a dream come true for him.

With me on Pogacar winning this year? You can back him and his -450 price at BetUS.

As noted, though, anything can happen in this race. There hasn’t been a repeat winner (back to back wins) since 1993, so volatility is king in this event.
