Sports Personality of the Year odds are out at BetUS, and with the ceremony date fast approaching (Tuesday, December 17), now’s the right time to place your bets. So, which athlete should you back?
I have a super-valuable piece of advice for you – always trust the SPOTY odds!
It’s because the betting favorite won the award each time in the last five years. Let’s see who the bookies from top entertainment betting sites are favoring this year.
Odds to Win the Sports Personality of the Year in 2024
Athlete | SPOTY Odds |
---|---|
Keely Hodgkinson | -500 |
Luke Littler | +300 |
Ben Ainslie | +1200 |
Mark Cavendish | +1400 |
Sarah Storey | +2000 |
Tom Pidcock | +2000 |
Jack Draper | +3000 |
Alfie Hewett | +3500 |
James Anderson | +4000 |
Hannah Cockroft | +4000 |
If you’re not familiar with it, this is an award awarded by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) to the best athlete from the United Kingdom. Knowing this, it’s no surprise that practically all the best UK betting sites have released 2024 SPOTY odds.
What about the US-friendly ones? Well, I’ve looked long and hard to find American sportsbooks with BBC Sports Personality of the Year odds. The only one I could find was BetUS, but that’s actually a great thing, as this is one of the best betting sites for Americans.
BetUS’s bookmakers think Keely Hodgkinson will win the award on December 17. Are they right to think so?
BetUS Best Sportsbook for SPOTY Betting
BetUS could be your ideal destination for anything related to entertainment betting. Not only does this sportsbook cover BBC SPOTY, but it lets you bet on many other award ceremonies – the Oscars, Grammies, and even the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards.
Apart from award ceremonies, you’ll find many other betting markets in the BetUS entertainment section. I’m talking about things like who’s going to be the next James Bond, who’s gonna win the Eurovision in 2025, and similar.
The best thing is that, in most cases, the odds are great for every single betting option at your disposal. This includes even the 2024 SPOTY odds, in which the No. 1 favorite is priced at -500. That’s actually very good, considering that last year’s winner was a -1200 favorite.

Why is Keely Hodgkinson the Sports Personality of the Year Favorite?
Keely Hodgkinson is a 22-year-old middle-distance runner who won Gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics in the women’s 800m race. It was one of the 14 gold medals won by athletes from Great Britain at the Olympic Games.
A few weeks before becoming the Olympic champ, she set a new British 800m record of 1:54:61. And before that, she won the gold medal at the 2024 European Athletics Championship.
Hodgkinson’s achievement is even more impressive given that just a few years ago, she was struggling with a serious illness that left her unable to walk on her own.
2024 Sports Personality of the Year Contenders
Based on the 2024 BBC Sports Personality of the Year odds, Luke Littler is Keely Hodgkinson’s main rival for the award. He’s a 16-year-old darts player who won the Premier League, as well as the World Series of Darts Finals and even the Grand Slam of Darts this year.
He’ll also compete in the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship, where he’s seen as the No. 1 favorite. However, the tournament will end after the 2024 SPOTY ceremony. If it were to finish before (and he won the championship), I’d bet my house on him winning the BBC award.
Despite that, he’s still seen as someone with much a better chance of winning the 2024 SPOTY award than Ben Ainslie and Mark Cavendish.
Ainslie is a 47-year-old sailing legend who led the INEOS Britannia tea in the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup this fall but failed to win the trophy despite coming very close. Had it happened, his SPOTY odds would’ve been much shorter than +1200.
Then, there’s Cavendish, who retired from his track cyclist career a couple of months ago, but only after breaking the record for the most stage wins at Tour de France. Still, I don’t think that’s enough for him to win the SPOTY award this year.
Instead, out of the top three contenders, I think Littler has the best chance. If you wanna back him, you can do it at BetUS by following the link below.
Best Sports Personality of the Year Sleepers
Emma Finucane isn’t even in the top 15 favorites to win the 2024 SPOTY, which I think is embarrassing for oddsmakers. It’s because this year, she became the first British woman in 60 years to win three Olympic medals in a single Games.
The 21-year-old cyclist won Gold in team sprint, as well as bronze medals in individual keirin and sprint. For all those reasons, she looks like a very good longshot bet. And the same goes for Formula One driver, Lando Norris.
The 25-year-old McLaen-Mercedes driver had a great season in 2024, giving real war to Max Verstappen, who was previously thought of as unstoppable.
He failed to win the F1 title, but despite that, he had his best season ever. In fact, it was the best season for a British driver since Lewis Hamilton won the championship in 2020.
Tips for Betting on the Sports Personality of the Year Winner
Looking for some entertainment betting tips? Well, the most valuable one is that it’s all about the odds. This goes especially for SPOTY winner betting.
Oddsmakers have been doing a terrific job at figuring out who’s most likely to win this award. Their guesses were correct in each of the last five years, as you can see in the table below.
Year | Winner | SPOTY Odds |
---|---|---|
2023 | Mary Earps | -1200 |
2022 | Beth Mead | -3300 |
2021 | Emma Raducanu | -2000 |
2020 | Lewis Hamilton | -225 |
2019 | Ben Stokes | -225 |
The last time the betting favorite didn’t win was in 2018 when Geraint Thomas (+250) won the award ahead of favored Harry Kane (+163).
Still, their odds were very close, so you really can’t put any blame on the oddsmakers.
2024 Sports Personality of the Year Prediction
- Keely Hodgkinson (-500) – Bet Now!
The Sports Personality of the Year odds say Keely Hodgkinson is going to win the award on December 17, and I trust them 100%. They haven’t failed us in a while, and I see no reason why it should be any different this time around.
Hodgkinson has done a lot this year, much more than any other British athlete, with the exception of Luke Littler. However, darts isn’t an Olympic sport, while the 800m running event is.
The fact that she won Gold last summer puts her above Littler in contention for the 2024 SPOTY. I think so, bookies think so, and if you too think she’s gonna win, why not bet on Keely at BetUS?
