Even though this batch of runners is already quite impressive, none of them come close to his resume.

He’s won nearly every marathon he’s ever participated in and has the world record. Kipchoge set the marathon world record with a time of 2:01:09 at the 2022 Berlin Marathon. If you had doubts about the 38-year-old’s age, I would rethink that.

There are 12 former champions that are running in 2023. They’ve won it before; why can’t they win again? This time would certainly be more impressive with Kipchoge running, but maybe that serves as motivation for the previous champs.

Three of those previous champs are Benson Kipruto, Evans Chebet, and Lelisa Desisa. I mentioned Kipruto and Chebet earlier, but it’s important to know their talent.

Out of these three, Chebet has the fastest winning time at 2:06:51. Desisa has the second-fastest out of these three with 2:09:17, which was back in 2015. Kipruto rounds out the list with a time of 2:09:51 from two years ago.

Kipchoge usually finishes close to two hours in his marathons, while these runners are closer to two hours and ten minutes. They’ll have to significantly improve their time if they want to beat Kipchoge or hope that he’s seriously off his game.

What if Kipchoge is seriously off his game? In that case, that could open the door for a super longshot bet to win. As I said, even the second runner in the 2023 Boston Marathon betting odds should be considered a long shot.

However, anything is possible, and someone could very well beat out Kipchoge. If you’re looking for a sleeper pick, how about Shura Kitata? He’s a very talented runner with impressive wins on his resume already.

The 26-year-old’s most impressive win was at the 2020 London Marathon. Why is that? Well, he was able to beat Eliud Kipchoge. Since he was already able to beat Kipchoge before, what’s stopping him from doing it again?

Kitata could be looking to establish himself as one of the best runners ever too. A win at the 2023 Boston Marathon would certainly put him up there.

It’s a rare sight for Kipchoge to lose any race. He only lost two of his 17 official marathons. His first loss was his second marathon in his career (2013 Berlin Marathon), and he came in second. The loss against Kitata came at the 2020 London Marathon, which was when Kipchoge had the worst finish of his career at eighth.

Kitata finished with a time of 2:05:41, while Kipchoge finished at 2:06:49.
