Odds and Prediction for the 2023 Hollywood Writers Strike – Betting on When it Will End
- The Hollywood Writers Guild strike has been going on for so long that you can bet on when it ends.
- You can bet on if the SAG or WGA strike ends first or if they both end on the same day at BetUS.
- My prediction is that both strikes will end on the same day (+550) and in September (+350).
It’s been nearly 16 years since the Writers Guild of America last went on strike. Unfortunately, we are still having the same problems in the industry today. The labor union is once again fighting for increased pay, job security, and other issues.
Actors, celebrities, and others have supported the movement across the country. It’s gained a lot of media attention, so hopefully, that helps make it a success.
The media attention has also prompted gambling sites to offer betting odds for when the 2023 Hollywood Writers Guild strike will end.
We can all use more money, right? I’ll provide you with a Hollywood Writers strike update and a breakdown of the betting odds below.
Latest on the 2023 Hollywood Writers Strike
Let’s dive into a Hollywood Writers strike update first so everyone is on the same page.
The Writers Guild of America (WGA) decided to go on strike on May 2nd, 2023. Their dispute is against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) for various reasons.
First and foremost, the WGA is fighting for increased pay and job security for their writers. In a world where the top media executives receive record-breaking amounts of cash, writers are paid under the Minimum Basic Agreement.
After negotiations, the WGA and AMPTP failed to agree to a new contract. They also hope to increase the size of writer’s rooms and limit the use of artificial intelligence.
To put things into perspective, 97.85% of the WGA voted to go on strike. When can you get nearly 98% of people to agree on anything nowadays?
The movement has gained a lot of positive support from actors, elected officials, and more.

Just recently, the SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) joined alongside the WGA in protest.
So, when will the 2023 Hollywood Writers strike end? It’s hard to tell, with both sides seeming to stand strong.
Responses from the showrunners have been a bit of a mixed bag. On the second day of the strike, The Walt Disney Company said that all writers must continue to do their “non-writing” work.
Paramount CEO Bob Bakish said writers are “an essential part of creating content,” and he hopes a resolution comes soon.
There was a report that said that AMPTP did not plan to renegotiate until October at the earliest. They even said that they could hold out until writers start losing their apartments and houses.
Odds for When the Writers Guild Strike Will End
So, when will the 2023 Hollywood Writers strike end? As you can see from the Hollywood Writers strike odds above, September and October of 2023 are the most likely outcomes. That said, they are far from a guarantee at +350.
If you think in terms of implied odds, +350 comes out to around a 22% chance. That means that there’s about a one in four or five chance that the strike ends in either of these two months.

It can feel a bit wrong to bet on the strike, but it is a good opportunity to win money.
Since negotiations aren’t expected to take place until October, it makes sense to see it as one of the top months here. I’m a bit surprised to see September with the same pricing, but maybe the strike will be successful.

Which Hollywood Strike Will End First?
Not only can you bet on which month the strike will end, but you can also bet on which Hollywood labor union strike ends first. As you can see, there’s a good chance that the SAG strike will end before the WGA.
These Hollywood Writers strike odds are also rather surprising. The WGA has been on strike since May 2nd, whereas the SAG strike started on July 14th. You would think that the longer lasting strike would be favored to end first, but that isn’t the case.

As I mentioned earlier, the SAG and WGA are going on at the same time and have the same opponent. Both labor unions were caused by a lack of agreement for a new contract with AMPTP, the use of artificial intelligence, fair compensation, and more.
From a betting perspective, it’s surprising that there are +550 odds for the strikes to end on the same day. These two labor unions are essentially fighting the same battle. Why would AMPTP change their mind about one agreement and not the other?
It could be just a matter of the members of AMPTP not being able to be in two places at one, but I doubt that’s a real issue.

Predicting When the Hollywood Writers Strike Ends
We’ve all seen the “Hollywood on strike!” news by now, which has many worried about the future of the entertainment industry. Writers are essential and deserve to be compensated fairly, especially when the showrunners are bathing in cash.
The last time the WGA went on strike, they were able to reach a new deal after 93 days. It’s been 86 days since the WGA strike began, so there’s a good chance it surpasses the last strike.
That’s not exactly good news, so hopefully, the strike is successful.
You might not get a slice of the pie if they ever do come to an agreement, so your only angle is to bet real money on it.
It’s important to shop around for the best props and prices.
For example, Bovada has the prop for the month the strike ends, while BetUS has a prop for which labor union’s strike ends first. You can get a better price for the SAG option (-200) if you visit BetOnline too.
