  • The 2023 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest odds are live on the top sites, such as BetUS.
  • To no one’s surprise, Joey Chestnut (-2500) is an overwhelming favorite to win yet again.
  • Bet on other fun props, such as the winner outside of Chestnut or if a record gets broken.

It’s that time of the year again when we watch a group of people attempt to shove down as many hot dogs as possible to celebrate the Fourth of July.

Nathan’s Famous Inc. hosts the long-standing tradition and it’s always a sight to see.

Professional eating competitions are the real deal. Some people have trouble putting down two to three hot dogs in one sitting. They wouldn’t stand a chance against some of these pros.

One thing you can do, though, is bet on the 2023 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest odds. The top gambling apps offer various props on the event, so let’s look to see what is worth betting on.

Odds to Win the 2023 Hot Dog Eating Contest

Joey Chestnut-2500
Geoffrey Esper+750
Any Other+900
Nick Wehry+1000
James Webb+1400
Darron Breedon+1400
Gideon Oji+1800

Here are the betting odds for Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in 2023.

As you can see, Joey Chestnut is a massive favorite to win with a price of -2500. That means you have to bet $2,500 just to win $100 if you want to bet on him.

Chestnut won the 2022 competition, choking down 63 franks to win his 15th competition in the last 16 years. So basically, Chestnut is the hot dog eating contest version of Bill Russell, Tom Brady, Michael Jordan, and other sports legends.

He’s been so good at eating hot dogs that his only real competition is his previous records.

Even competing last year in crutches, dealing with personal issues, and fighting off a protestor in the process, Chestnut outlasted everyone else by at least 16 hot dogs and buns.

No wonder his 2023 hot dog contest odds are the way they are. It will take an absolute miracle to beat him, especially since he should be healthier coming into this year’s competition.

The return on your investment isn’t appealing when you bet on Chestnut. However, there aren’t a lot of things in the betting world that are as close to a “sure thing” as this.

It takes a lot of money to win back a little, but that’s more money than you’ve had before.

Who Can Beat Joey Chestnut This Year?

Joey Chestnut

For those of you who would rather hold onto your money than bet on Chestnut’s odds, there are some other competitors you could consider as longshots. Chestnut has lost before, and anything can happen.

The great Matt Stonie bested Chestnut in 2015, eating 62 franks compared to Chestnut’s 60. A one out of sixteen winning rate comes out to just over 6% of the time. It may not be a great percentage, but it’s not 0%.

With that in mind, which competitors should we consider betting on in 2023? We don’t have Matt Stonie’s odds at the moment, but that could change in the near future. Stonie hasn’t competed since 2019, so there’s no guarantee he will.

In the meantime, Geoffrey Esper and Nick Wehry look to be the top two contenders outside of Chestnut.

Geoffrey Esper (+750)

The second-place finisher in 2022 was Geoffrey Esper, who ate 47 hot dogs.

He’s also ranked second in the Major League Eating Rankings behind Chestnut. Although Chestnut has a ton of different eating records, Esper has a good amount as well.

Here are some of the most impressive records Esper has to date:

  • 36 4.5-ounce Brats in 10 Minutes
  • 83 Slices of Pizza in 10 Minutes
  • 95 two-ounce Tamales in 10 Minutes
  • 281 Hooters Wings in 10 Minutes
  • 293 Jack’s Donut Holes in 8 Minutes

As you can see, Geoffrey can eat a whole lot in a short amount of time. Hot dogs aren’t typically his game, but he does have a few brats records to his name, which is similar.

The 47-year-old will likely have to beat his own personal record of 51 hot dogs to even come close to Chestnut.

You can also bet on the over/under for Esper at 50.5 at BetUS. He’s also the favorite to win in the prop without Chestnut with -240 odds. If Chestnut stumbles at all, Esper immediately becomes a heavy favorite to win.

Nick Wehry (+1000)

Another pro eater that could have a chance here is Nick Wehry.

His 2023 Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest odds are more profitable than Chestnut and Esper’s. To put things into perspective, a $100 bet on Chestnut will win just $4, but a $100 bet on Wehry will win $1,000.

Competitive eating runs in the family for Wehry, as he’s married to Miki Sudo. Sudo is basically the female version of Joey Chestnut, but we will talk more about her later.

Wehry actually downed 50 hard-boiled eggs in three minutes and four seconds. After that performance, he proposed to Sudo, and she said yes.

He also has experience beating Chestnut in a recent competition. In a record-breaking performance, the 33-year-old ate 109 pistachios in eight minutes back in February.

If he can bring that pistachio-eating speed into the hot dog eating contest, Wehry could contend for the top spot.

Betting on the Women’s Hot Dog Eating Contest

Miki Sudo-5000
Michelle Lesco+900
Any Other+750

Above are the female betting odds for Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.

As you can see, Miki Sudo is a massive favorite to win. Surprisingly enough, she’s a heavier favorite to win than Joey Chestnut is for the men’s competition.

Last year, Sudo returned from her one-year hiatus (pregnancy) and got right back into the driver’s seat. She ate 40 hot dogs in the competition and took home the women’s first-place trophy.

Michelle Lesco won in 2021 with 30.75 hot dogs, but it’s safe to say that she benefited from not having to face Sudo.

As I said, Sudo is essentially the female version of Joey Chestnut. She has eight wins to her name, dating back to 2014.

Lesco’s win in 2021 was also her personal best. Sudo has never eaten less than 31 hot dogs in a competition.

That said, the 2023 hot dog contest odds are not profitable at all for Sudo. You’ll make a lot more money betting on Lesco or the “Any Other” option.

2023 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Props

The 2023 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest odds don’t do us any favors for the men or women’s competition. Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo are dominant favorites, which makes it hard to justify betting on them.

They also win so frequently that you can hardly justify betting on a sleeper. The good news is that these aren’t the only betting markets for the event.

Here are some other props you could target with more profitable odds:

  • Will the Men’s/Women’s Record Be Broken in 2023?
  • Nick Wehry (-190) vs. Miki Sudo (+140)
  • Odds to Win Without Joey Chestnut
  • Over/Under Props for Joey Chestnut, Miki Sudo, Geoffrey Esper, etc.

I recommend betting on the props above if you’re looking for more betting value.

The two best bang-for-your-buck props have to do with the men and women’s records. You can get +200 and +165 for those two, respectively.

Another fun prop has to do with our favorite Major League Eating couple: Nick Wehry and Miku Sudo.

The bet has to do with who eats more hot dogs head-to-head. This could be a very close race and probably much closer than the men’s and women’s competitions.

There’s even a prop that takes Chestnut out of the picture since he’s such a dominant favorite. Esper is a decent favorite at -240, and the other contestants also have intriguing price tags.

Another good way to bet on the annual event is to bet on the over/under props for individual contestants.

Chestnut has the highest line at a whopping 73.5. You’ll also find that Miki Sudo, Geoffrey Esper, Nick Wehry, and more have over/under props.

There are a lot of ways to bet on the upcoming hot dog eating contest. The main competition’s odds don’t offer much value, but these extra props do.

Betting Strategy for the 2023 Hot Dog Contest

There’s a good chance you’ve never bet on the hot dog eating contest before. It’s not exactly a common wager that you’ll find on the top betting sites.

Don’t worry, though; I have some helpful pointers to help you make your predictions.

  • Use the Top Betting Sites
  • Research Previous Finishes and Totals
  • Pay Attention to External Factors

The first thing to know is that you won’t find 2023 Nathan’s hot dog contest odds just anywhere. Currently, BetUS is the only site that has the odds up.

I strongly recommend getting your bets in now in case the odds shift, and these props aren’t as profitable. To get a better idea of where these contestants will finish, you can look at their recent attempts.

For example, Joey Chestnut finished with 63 hot dogs in 2022, which is his worst finish since 2015.

He had 76 and 75 in the two years prior and 70+ in his last 6 outings in total.

Another thing to pay attention to is the storylines. Chestnut performed while he was still recovering from his injury last year, and he also fought off a protester in the middle of the contest.

It’s unlikely that security will allow another protestor to get close in 2023, and Chestnut should be healthier this time around.

I expect Chestnut to finish back in the 70s again now that he won’t have to deal with these other factors.

2023 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Predictions

You probably aren’t going to be rushing to bet on the 2023 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest odds for Joey Chestnut and Miki Suko.

I do think they both win the competition, but their odds don’t offer a hint of value.

That’s why I’ll be betting on the props instead. You can find a lot of betting value in the extra bets outside of the competitions themselves.

Here are my favorite three bets to target for 2023, all of which you can take advantage of by visiting BetUS:

  • Men’s Record to be Broken (+200)
  • Joey Chestnut Over 73.5 Hot Dogs (-120)
  • Nick Wehry to defeat Miki Sudo (-190)

It’s borderline insane to bet against Chestnut, so I’m taking his over on his total. I also think he has a good chance to beat the men’s record, which is Chestnut’s from 2021 (76).

The friendly competition between Wehry and Sudo should be a close battle. However, Wehry’s odds aren’t too far in negative territory, and he should have a higher chance of winning.

His betting line is set at 47.5, while Sudo’s is at 44.5, so already you can see that he’s expected to finish with a little more.

I recommend checking out the top entertainment betting sites if you enjoy these unique props. You can find a ton of different props outside of the traditional casino games and sports bets.
