2024 Emmy Awards Predictions

And just like that, we’re back with the 2024 Emmy Awards predictions, only eight months since 4.46 million of us saw ‘The Bear’ and ‘Succession’ sweep up six major awards apiece. 

The 76th edition promises to be a spectacle, set to air live on September 15 from the iconic Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. Hot names like ‘Shogun’ and ‘The Crown’ lead the drama categories; meanwhile, I’ve got my own favorite lined up that’s geared to claim its share of awards.

Let’s dive into this year’s Emmy predictions, check out the odds at BetUS, and spotlight the standout contenders.

The Bear to Win Outstanding Comedy Series (-650)

‘The Bear’ is in a prime position to take home the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series, and here’s why: it smashed records with 23 nominations in a single year, surpassing even the historic numbers of “30 Rock”.

It’s also enjoyed a nice batch of wins at the Creative Arts ceremony, too.

This haul includes key categories like acting and writing, demonstrating broad industry recognition and acclaim.

Plus, the strong performances from the cast, particularly those who have previously won Emmys like Jeremy Allen White, boost its standing as a frontrunner this year​.

Hiroyuki Sanada to Win Outstanding Lead Actor In Drama Series (-1000)

Hiroyuki Sanada’s role in ‘Shōgun’ is really something else this Emmy season. He nails it as Lord Yoshii Toranaga, pulling off a power play with just the right mix of subtlety and strength.

And, with the drama making waves, too, it’s clear why offshore sportsbooks like BetUS priced him so short. 

Anna Sawai to Win Outstanding Lead Actress In Drama Series (-1200)

Jeremy Allen White to Win Outstanding Lead Actor In Comedy Series (-800)

Anyone who watched ‘The Bear’ would have fallen in love with Jeremy Allen White by the very first few episodes.

His performance resonated on a different level, and I’m guessing the voters will find it tough to overlook. He’s a massive -800 betting favorite for a reason, and he just got done winning this same award at the Golden Globes.

Of course, there isn’t much money to be made in backing Jeremy Allen White due to his price.

If you had to ask me for another serious contender, I’d say Martin Short—probably my love for a good suspenseful crime comedy speaking there. Steve Martin was in the same show and has even better odds, while Larry David could always get a proper send-off.

Jean Smart to Win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (-800)

Way before the odds were even set, I had my eyes on Jean Smart for the 2024 Emmy Awards predictions. She’s got a solid track record with the voters, winning twice for “Hacks” alone, and that just shows how much her performances connect so well with audiences.

Smart was as good as ever in the most recent season of Hacks, both hilarious and positively brutal. She’s a great bet to add to her hardware, but her -800 odds don’t do bettors much good.

Kristen Wiig and Selena Gomez are fun punts, even if they’re unlikely to win.

Tadanobu Asano to Win Outstanding Supporting Actor In Drama Series (+160)

For this one, the focus is squarely on Billy Crudup and Tadanobu Asano.

The former is a familiar name, thanks to his numerous wins and nominations for “The Morning Show.” But keep an eye on Asano in “Shogun”—there’s a lot of chatter about his performance, and it feels like he could really shake things up this year.

My take on who will win at the Emmys? I’m going for a Shogun sweep. My money’s on Tadanobu Asano.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach to Win Outstanding Supporting Actor In Comedy Series (-2000)

His win earlier this year sets him up nicely for a repeat, echoing previous double winners like Brett Goldstein and Tony Hale. Looking to bet on the Emmys for a potential upset?

Keep an eye on Paul W. Downs—his unique role in “Hacks” makes him a dark horse worth watching.

Baby Reindeer to Win Outstanding Limited Series (-600)

For this one, I’m all in on Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer,” especially after “Shōgun” made the jump to the drama category.

Richard Gadd’s narrative shone brightly as a compelling, emotionally rich show that caught so much attention it only makes sense it would take home the trophy.

It’s another show that got some respect at the Creative Arts ceremony already.

While “Ripley” deserves props for its craft, “Baby Reindeer” likely has the upper hand with its wide appeal and strong word-of-mouth support.

It’s almost a tradition now to watch RuPaul’s show take home the Emmy—there’s that combo of charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent that has fans and judges alike hooked year after year. ‘The Traitor,’ however, introduces a refreshing twist to the competition. It’s definitely a strong contender with its novel murder mystery approach.

The bottom line is that you either bank on RuPaul’s proven track record or bet on the fresh appeal of ‘The Traitors.’

I’ve personally got a strong hunch that Richard Gadd is going to take it for Baby Reindeer. He’s spun his true story into a narrative that’s both deeply personal and immensely relatable, hitting right where it counts.

Bovada has him priced at -300, closely followed by Noah Farley with Fargo. His script goes very deep, reflecting genuine, raw human experiences that tend to resonate widely; it can easily stand out in a field of formidable talents.

The 2024 Emmys Predictions: Bottom Line

If you had to ask me for my top 2024 Emmys prediction, I’d say keep a close eye on Baby Reindeer and Shogun.

The latter has already proven its merit with three Emmy wins, and this year it’s got the most nominations. On the other hand, Richard Gadd’s way of weaving his story makes it too easy to fall in love with both the narrative and the characters.
