2024 Hungarian GP Odds and Predictions
The 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix odds once again favor Max Verstappen (-150), but is his reign of dominance coming to an end? Mercedes has won the past two races, and McLaren could have won them instead if not for a series of strategic errors.

Current Odds to Win the 2024 Hungarian GP
The odds for the 2024 Hungarian GP have been released at Bovada.
Formula One Driver | Betting Odds |
---|---|
Max Verstappen | -150 |
Lando Norris | +350 |
George Russell | +1000 |
Lewis Hamilton | +1000 |
Oscar Piastri | +1200 |
Charles Leclerc | +2000 |
Carlos Sainz | +2500 |
Sergio Perez | +6600 |
While still favored to win in Hungary, Max Verstappen (-150) has shorter odds to win than he’s had the last three races.
Mercedes and McLaren have closed the gap to Red Bull, and the once dominant Verstappen must now fight off challengers driving faster cars than his. Lando Norris (+350) has the next best odds, followed by the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell at (+1000) each.
Norris’ MCL38 challenger likely has the raw speed to beat Verstappen in Hungary. But both Lando and the McLaren pit wall will need to significantly reduce their unforced errors up they want to consistently press for wins.
Mercedes has won the last two races—one on merit and one by being at the right place at the right time—but Hamilton and Russell still have shorter odds than Norris does.
Something has been off at Ferrari ever since Charles Leclerc won in his home race of Monaco, which is why the Ferrari duo has longer odds than other leading teams. While they’re still front-runners, Leclerc (+2000) and teammate Carlos Sainz (+2500) can likely challenge for a win only if something goes wrong for Verstappen, Mercedes, and/or McLaren.
Regardless of who you like to win the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix, Bovada is the place to bet on the winner. Getting Verstappen at -150 odds is always fun, while you’re getting solid value across the board by betting there.

2024 Hungarian Grand Prix Details
- What: 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix
- Where: The Hungaroring — Mogyoród, Hungary
- When: Sunday July 21, 2024
- Watch: ESPN/ESPN+
The 2024 Hungarian GP takes place on Sunday, July 21, 2024, live from the Hungaroring in Mogyoród, Hungary.
The circuit is one of the most challenging tracks on the calendar, as its narrow width and 14 technically demanding corners make it difficult to overtake. The Hungaroring has hosted the Hungarian Grand Prix since 1986 and was completed in only eight months—the fastest an F1 track has ever been built. It was also home to the first ever Formula 1 race held behind the Iron Curtain.
The biggest storyline going into the race are whether Sergio Perez can help Verstappen and keep his seat in the process. McLaren’s strategy calls have cost them multiple race wins in recent weeks, so we’ll also see if they can finally string together a solid weekend and claim their second victory of the year.
The Mercedes car does great under cool conditions, although the Hungaroring is traditionally held in July under scorching hot conditions.
Rain has affected the race in recent years, however. In 2021 Esteban Ocon won the first race of his career after five cars retired on the first lap due to multiple rain-induced incidents. If it rains again look for the Silver Arrows to capitalize and potentially score their third consecutive victory.
Why is Max Verstappen the Hungarian GP Favorite?
Max Verstappen remains a consistent threat to win races even though he doesn’t have the fastest car anymore, a testament to his immense talent.
He finished fifth in Austria despite an extra pit stop to fix damage he sustained in a collision with Lando Norris as the two fought for the lead.
Red Bull needs Sergio Perez (+6600) to qualify near Verstappen to help fend off Mercedes and McLaren, but Perez is under serious pressure as other teams catch up. Sergio is heavily rumored to be on the chopping block if his performance doesn’t improve, and he desperately wants to keep his seat at the sport’s top team.
Last year, Verstappen single-handedly won Red Bull the Constructor’s Trophy without Perez, and continues to score most of the team’s points this year too. But with more teams now able to win races, Verstappen’s chances of winning in Hungary may depend on support from his struggling teammate.
Top Hungarian GP Contenders for 2024
Max Verstappen remains the betting favorite despite some recent missteps. He is still the top option for bettors – and offers amazing value – but we’ve been reminded he’s not the only F1 driver out there.
Here are the three main Hungary Grand Prix contenders to bet on.
Lando Norris (+350)
Lando Norris (+350) scored his first F1 victory in Miami back in May, and came painfully close to a second win in Canada, Austria, and Britain. A combination of strategic missteps by the team and driving errors by Norris himself has kept that next victory at bay.
Norris can absolutely win in Hungary, but only If both he and the McLaren pit wall don’t shoot themselves in the foot through with questionable strategy.
George Russell (+1000)
George Russell (+1000) has taken pole in two of the past three races, though ironically, he only won in Austria—where he qualified third.
He’s had decent success at the Hungary GP in recent years, finishing 8th or better every year since 2022. His best run came in 2022, when he placed third.
Event history doesn’t move the needle too much here, but Russell’s recent form for 2024 specifically – top-5 in four of his last five races – keeps him in play.
2024 Hungarian Grand Prix Sleepers
If you’re watching the Hungarian Grand Prix to bet on Formula 1, consider these sleeper picks that can potentially help you win big.
Lewis Hamilton (+1000)
It feels odd to name the man who won the previous race as a sleeper, but here we are. Hamilton has the most GP victories in F1 history, and is tied for most World Championships as well.
After nearly two years in a car far below Mercedes’ incredibly high standards, the team has finally cracked the code and provided Hamilton with a competitive car.
And with George Russell likely to qualify near him, Hamilton should have the help he needs to fight for a victory at the front of the field.
Could Hamilton be rediscovering his old form just in time to make a strong push? It’s anyone’s guess, but getting him at +1000 right now feels like a steal.
Oscar Piastri (+1200)
One more Hungarian Grand Prix value bet to consider is Piastri. He’s in the fastest car (McLaren) and has shown incredible promise.
The 23-year old doesn’t have a win to his name yet, but he also simply lacks experience. He’s heating up, though, having finished 4th last time out and also notching two second place finishes on the year.
Piastri was also solid in this race last year with a fifth place effort. Could he be nearing his first F1 victory? Based on his recent form, he’s not a bad roll of the dice at +1200.
Who Will Win the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix?
The 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix odds favor Max Verstappen (-150), though Lando Norris (+350), Lewis Hamilton (+1000), and George Russell (+1000) may disagree.
Norris is obviously a contender to win the race as well, as him and Piastri (+1400) have the fastest cars on the grid. But a series of confounding strategic decision in recent races makes me hesitant to bet on them, even though I do see more McLaren victories in the near future.
My personal prediction is that Lewis Hamilton will be invigorated by his home race victory and claim his second consecutive victory.
