2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Odds

Joey Chestnut competing at the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest

The 2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest odds do not mention Joey Chestnut. It’s still unclear whether the “greatest eater ever” will miss the 4th of July contest, but the top betting sites don’t seem to care.

At BetUS, you can only bet on Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest winners other than Joey Chestnut. Why? Because his odds would be so short that you’d need to bet thousands of dollars to make a decent profit.

Last year, his Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest betting odds were as short as -4000, and this year, they would’ve been even shorter. But with him out of the picture, the 2024 contest looks very spicy. I’m now going to delve deeper into the subject of odds, explaining why betting at least some money on this event would be the right thing to do.

Odds to Win the 2024 Hot Dog Contest

I was only able to find one online sportsbook that offers 2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest odds. The good news is that it’s BetUS, which is one of the best betting sites in the world as you can learn from our BetUS review.

It’s famously reliable, user-friendly, and offers amazing bonuses, starting with the 125% up to $2,500 welcome bonus. On top of everything, this sportsbook is offering pretty good 2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest odds as you can see below:

2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest – Winner Odds
James Webb -130
Geoffrey Esper -110
Bertley Weaver IV +800
Nick Wehry +1000
Gideon Oji +1800

The odds you see above are for the contest winner market without Joey Chestnut. So, even if he ends up winning the event, it won’t count.

Instead, BetUS will consider the winner the contestant who finished just behind him. In case Joey Chestnut really misses the 4th of July contest, you can disregard this rule.

So, who do you think is the best betting option? If you need help with picking the right bets, keep on reading as I’ll now share my top Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest predictions with you. But if you already have a winner in mind, go to BetUS straight away!

2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest Overview

  • When: Thursday, July 4, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Eastern Time)
  • Where: Nathan’s Famous restaurant at the corner of Surf and Stillwell in Coney Island
  • How to Watch: ESPN

The Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest is an annual event that’s usually held on the 4th of July. The contest debuted in 1967, but it’s the last two decades that saw it break into the mainstream.

Today, this is one of the most famous food-eating competitions on the planet, with about 40,000 expected to come to Nathan’s Famous flagship restaurant in Coney Island to watch the show live.

Those who can’t make it can watch the contest on the ESPN network. The Nathan’s hot dog eating contest time is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the main event expected to start around noon.

If you’re wondering what’s behind the rising popularity of this contest, it has everything to do with the brand run of Joey Chestnut, who won the contest on 16 occasions.

However, we might not see him take part in the 2024 contest as the organizers have a beef with him due to his decision to accept sponsorship by a rival brand. Luckily, there are plenty of other contestants coming to Coney Island hungry for success.

Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest Prop Bets

Apart from betting on who’s going to win the 2024 contest, you can put your money on many other bets. In this section, I’ll present you with my favorite props. They’re fun, but also potentially very lucrative.

Paige Spiranac: Total Hot Dogs Eaten: Over 7 (+100)

Legends of competitive eating aren’t the only ones we’ll see on the big stage in Coney Island on Independence Day. We’ll also see some stars from other sports try and see how good they are at devouring hot dogs.

One of those is Paige Spiranac, a former pro golfer. She apparently offered to replace Joey Chestnut as a joke, but it seems that the organizers are actually keen on having her there on July 4.

She probably won’t do much, but I’m confident she can tackle seven hot dogs in 10 minutes. I’m no expert, but it doesn’t seem too difficult.

Will the Men’s Record Be Broken (76 Hot Dogs): Yes (+2500)

In 2021, Joey Chestnut set the world record for most hot dogs eaten in 10 minutes by eating 76 of them. This way, he carved his name into the history books of competitive eating. But that wasn’t the end – after the record-breaking contest, he went on to become the champ three more times.

But his glory days might be over, at least when it comes to Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. The organizers have decided to ban him from taking part in the 2024 contest. If they don’t change their mind, this will be the first contest without him since 2007.

With Chestnut gone, the contest needs a new hero. The best way to become the new hot dog king is to break the record set by the old king. Oddsmakers from BetUS don’t think that will happen, but I think the odds of +2500 are too good to sleep on.

Best Bets for the 2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest

  • Geoffrey Esper to Win the Men’s Contest (-110)
  • Miki Sudo to Win the Women’s Contest (-5000)

James Webb is the No. 1 favorite to win the 2024 contest with odds of -130, but Geoffrey Esper isn’t far behind him. The man who ate 49 hot dogs and buns last year is priced at -110.

Esper finished second in 2023 and given that Chestnut is likely to miss this year’s contest, he’s got a decent chance of becoming the champ. That’s why I expect him to give his utmost on July 4 and maybe even make it 50 this time around.

I’m also certain that Miki Sudo will win the women’s contest. What Chestnut is in men’s competitive eating, Sudo is in women’s. Unfortunately, her odds are very, very short, but it only shows that bookies too are confident she’s going to win.

Past Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Winners

For the last 17 years, the face of Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest has been Joey Chestnut. But his era might come to an end if the organizers don’t change their mind before July 4. If they don’t lift the ban, we’ll get a new champ of the men’s contest.

Over in the women’s contest, Miki Sudo has been the queen of hot dog eating, winning nine of the last 10 titles.

Year Men’s Contest Winner Women’s Contest Winner
2023 Joey Chestnut Miki Sudo
2022 Joey Chestnut Miki Sudo
2021 Joey Chestnut Miki Sudo
2020 Joey Chestnut Michelle Lesco
2019 Joey Chestnut Miki Sudo
2018 Joey Chestnut Miki Sudo
2017 Joey Chestnut Miki Sudo
2016 Joey Chestnut Miki Sudo
2015 Matt Stonie Miki Sudo
2014 Joey Chestnut Miki Sudo

The only time Sudo didn’t win in the past decade? She didn’t even compete. Chest nut obviously can’t be bet on (for now), while Sudo’s odds aren’t remotely appealing.

Due to these stretches of dominance, the best way to attack this contest could be to bet on Hot Dog Contest props and/or to predict who replaces Chestnut as the men’s champ.

2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Prediction

My prediction is that the 2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is going to be a real thriller, particularly the men’s one. It’s because this could be the first time that Joey Chestnut isn’t coming to Coney Island in more than 17 years. What this means is that we’ll get a new king of HDB eating!

With so much at stake, you can be certain that everyone’s going to go all-in. This goes especially for Geoffrey Esper, who would be the champ if it weren’t for Chestnut. This guy came second last year, but this time, I can see him winning.

The 4th of July contest is the beginning of a fun summer of betting. Before long, however, we should have an even bigger and better event with Jake Paul and Mike Tyson finally facing off. If you’re curious how to bet on that bout, head to my blog where I analyze the latest odds.

Early Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul Odds

The early Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul odds suggest that the 57-year-old boxing legend is in trouble. 8 of Paul’s 9 wins came vs. boxers who are at least 35 years of age; Tyson will be 58 this summer. The Paul vs. Tyson bout will be fought with headgear, so...
