  • Mystery themed slots are certainly growing in popularity.
  • Thanks to detective shows and classic literature, more games are hitting casinos.
  • I reveal the six best mystery slots you can play online today, as well as where to find them.

I’m supposed to start with something about how much of a mystery it can be to find great slots. But I’ll save the corny puns for another day.

Instead, I’ll focus on a few games that might pique your interest, especially if you are a budding FBI detective, a novice code-cracker, or simply a fan of a good old whodunit.

Whatever tickles your fancy, you are spoiled for choice with what I have to share with you. Some games with bonuses, free spins, and some creative features require detective work.

You’re here to find some enigmatic mystery slot machines to play online. So, you might as well join me as I break down six of the best!

Lost Mystery Chests

  • Software: Betsoft
  • RTP: 95.37%
  • Where to Play: Wild Casino

If you’ve ever lost your mystery chest, you might sympathize with the protagonist in this creation of Betsoft.

With a sleek design that tips a brown fedora to the Indiana Jones franchise, it’s no wonder the game makes this list of top mystery slots. As with any game of this ilk, the aim is to make some money by first figuring out a couple of things along the way.

Here’s the trailer from Betsoft.

As you can see, this one has a lot to unpack.

It’s a medium volatility game with more than a touch of ancient Egypt about it. What bags it a mention in my favorite mystery slot machines, however, is the mesmerizing bonus rounds and booming soundtrack.

The graphics aren’t bad, either. So head to Wild Casino!

Sherlock of London

  • Software: Rabcat/Microgaming
  • RTP: 96.03%
  • Where to Play: Slots.lv

If it’s detective slots you’re after, you’ll love a bit of this.

Sherlock of London is based on the fictitious Holmes, created by the legendary writer Arthur Conan Doyle. It’s a 3D slot from the Rabcat/Microgaming studios, which adds a nice element of class to the game.

There is everything you’d expect of a game branded as one of the top mystery slots online. You join Holmes and Watson on a trail of shadows across the English capital. In addition to stumbling across free spins, you can also trigger the following features.

  • Bonus Spins: Land a wild on the first two reels will get you a free spin or two. Wilds are then locked in during the feature, which can also land the following games.
  • Connecting Wilds: Land more than one wild to connect with another. If wilds continue to appear, they will interlock for potentially big wins.
  • Double Win: If you land two wins side by side, the full amount of that win will be paid double.

Doyle might not have been around to witness Hollywood botch his most famous creation.

But if he were here right now, I’m sure the physician-cum-writer would be heading over to Slots.lv to have a spin on this game.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

  • Software: Skywind
  • RTP: 95.18%
  • Where to Play: Multiple Casinos

Skywind is responsible for innovative games, including one of the best mystery-themed slots on this list.

Based on the US crime forensics show, the game might have been a no-brainer for its association with Las Vegas.

If you don’t get the connection between Sin City and slot machines, I envy you with the same passion as a losing slots player does to their more successful neighbor on the casino floor.

Anyway, this one could be up your alley if you’re looking for slots with a mystery to solve. As our review of the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation slot covers, there are two major bonus symbols to look out for.

  • The Crime Scene Bonus
  • The Lock’n’Re-Spin Bonus

If you’d like to get your Ted Danson on but in slot form, head to 888 Casino. Personally, I preferred him in Cheers. But don’t let that distract you from how good this game is.

Of course, read our slots guide if you’re new to online gambling!

Bounty Hunter

  • Software: Genesis
  • RTP: 97.10%
  • Where to Play: Bovada

Genesis Gaming recently released this one, which I’m predicting will be a hit with Bovada players.

Contrary to the name, the game is not based on the exploits of “Dog,” the mullet-clad Hawaiian bounty hunter. Instead, it’s a cartoonish slot with a less comedic, although far more lucrative, bite than Chapman.

It’s certainly a much happier place to be around than Ireland in the late 1700s when a particular bounty hunter was whacking Irish clerics on behalf of the British. Seán na Sagart, known as “John of the Priests,” topped a list of the most famous bounty hunters.

Where’s his game?

Anyway, I’m going slightly off-topic here when I should be discussing slots with a mystery theme, furthermore, why Bounty Hunter was a real pleasure to play.

I enjoyed chasing down the bad guys and playing the part of the hunter-cum-detective. Well, as close as you can get to do that when playing real money slots games.

Looking to give it a pop? Check it out at Bovada now.

Mystic Elements

From slots where you solve mysteries to bounty hunters stalking their prey, there are some excellent games on this list.

Mystic Elements takes things up a notch where the unknown is concerned. Created by Woohoo, this game is based more on metaphysics than tracing the last movements of career criminals and murderers.

I regard the game, available at DuckyLuck, as one of the best mystery slots out there. It pays from left and right, meaning there is ample opportunity to make some money.

Keep an eye out for the free spins and the light symbols, which can lead you all the way to a nice, fancy jackpot.

Cash Bandits 3

The first two installments of the Cash Bandits franchise were wildly popular.

Hence, we have a third. Now, if it’s slots with a mystery theme you like, you might be swayed by the fact that the characters in this game are even more dastardly than previously. The judicial system in the world of slots has much to answer for.

Anyway, if you’re looking to strike it rich in this game, the easiest way to do so is by bagging five bandits in a line. That pays at 5000x your bet. The thieves can also substitute for several different symbols, however, so you can also get your hands on other big prizes.

What I love about Cash Bandits 3 is that two jackpots are available to win.

As you’ll find out when you play the game, the prizes change according to the progressive ticker.

Jackpots are paid randomly, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to try and curry favor with the thieves. If only you could do that. They’d probably only steal the money when you weren’t looking, so there’s no need to fantasize about that one too much.

Now, another excellent part of this game is the Vault Feature. With 390 free spins as well as a potential 23x multiplier, it has one of the most exciting bonuses out there.

How the Top Mystery Slots Compare to Other Genres

Look, there are plenty of slots with a mystery theme out there for you to sample.

The best of them will appeal if you like cracking codes, chasing bad guys, or potentially landing more free spins than you can count. From Lost Mystery Chests to Cash Bandits 3, you’re pretty much spoiled for choice.

One of the best ways to improve your slot game is by sampling different genres.

You would be shocked by the number of different themes and titles out there. And this is only going to grow even bigger.

When I think about it, there is lots of fun to be had playing slot machines in pretty much every genre there is. If you’re focusing on fun rather than, say, Asian themed games, why not just play fun slots?

That makes more sense than I intended it to. But who’s complaining?
