Duke, Florida, Auburn, and Houston earned their number-one seed with impressive regular and conference playoff performances. However, I think Auburn is primed for an upset in the 2025 March Madness tournament.
Auburn is the only number-one seed not to win its conference tournament. Although the Tigers were the top seed in the SEC Tournament, they lost in the semifinals to Tennessee. The good news for the Tigers is that Tennessee and Florida, the SEC champions, are both in separate regions.
To make the Final Four, Auburn must win the South Region. That will be easier said than done, as Auburn faces early potential matchups with Louisville. The runner-up in the ACC, and Michigan, which won the Big 10.

March Madness is known for shocking upsets, and it is rare for all four number-one seeds to make the Final Four. Here are four sleepers in the 2025 Final Four odds that offer intriguing betting value.
Kentucky Wildcats (+900)
Kentucky has struggled in its recent appearances in the March Madness. The Wildcats have not made it past the second round since 2019. However, I believe that could change this year.
The Wildcats are the #3 seed in the Midwest Region and have a first-round matchup with #14 Troy. Their toughest early matchup is a potential Sweet 16 matchup with #2 Tennessee. Kentucky will also likely have to get by #1 Houston to make the Final Four.
Tennessee and Houston would be tough matchups, but the Wildcats are a deep team. Kentucky has six players averaging double-digit points this year.
Texas A&M Aggies (+1200)
Another underdog that stands out in the latest is Texas A&M, which is available at 12-1 odds to win the South Region and advance to the Final Four. As mentioned above, I believe Auburn is the number-one seed most likely to miss the Final Four.
Texas A&M could face Auburn in the Sweet 16. The Aggies must defeat #13 Yale and either #5 Michigan or #12 US San Diego to make round three. Both are formidable opponents, but they will help the Aggies prepare for a showdown with Auburn.
Kansas Jayhawks (+1400)
The Jayhawks are the seventh-seed in the West and are available at 14-1 to win the region and make the Final Four. Kansas is favored over its round one opponent, Arkansas, but has a challenging second-round showdown with #2 St. John’s.
Despite a disappointing regular season, it is never safe to bet against a Bill Self-coached Jayhawks squad. If Kansas can get past St. John’s, their path to the Final Four will become much more manageable.
Louisville Cardinals (+1800)
Finally, a fourth sleeper I would consider is Louisville. Like Texas A&M, the Cardinals are in the South Region and face a potential early matchup with Auburn.
Louisville has a challenging first opponent in #9 Creighton. The Bluejays took down DePaul and UConn in the Big East conference playoffs but lost to St John’s in the title game.
The Cardinals also finished second in their conference playoffs, losing to Duke in the ACC title game. There is no denying that Louisville’s first two matchups will be challenging, but if the Cardinals get past Creighton and Auburn, they will have a clear path to the Final Four.
