The starting rosters for the AL and NL All-Star teams were elected by fans and revealed on July 3, 2024.
While the game’s starting pitchers haven’t been announced at the time of this writing, there’s a good chance that two of the most talked-about pitchers of the 2024 MLB season get the nod.
2024 MLB All-Star Game — American League Starting Roster
The 2024 AL starting roster is highlighted by MLB home run and RBI leader Aaron Judge, batting average leader Steven Kwan, and 9x all star Jose Altuve.
White Sox starter and MLB strikeouts leader Garret Crochet has a good chance to start on the mound for the National League.
2024 MLB All-Star Game — National League Starting Roster
The 2024 NL starting roster features the Philadelphia Phillies trio of Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm, and Trea Turner. The lineup also has superstar Shohei Ohtani as DH—arguably the greatest player in baseball history.
The NL pitching staff is headlined by Pittsburgh right-hander Paul Skenes—the first player to have ever been selected first overall in the MLB draft and make the All-Star roster the following year. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he’s named as the NL’s starting pitcher.

There have only been a handful of HR derby participants announced, and just three 2024 MLB home run derby odds have been released at Bovada, at the time of this writing.
Bovada has New York Mets 1B Pete Alonso (+300) as the favorite to win the HR derby, followed by Baltimore SS Gunnar Henderson (+500), Kansas City SS Bobby Witt Jr (+550), and Philadelphia 3B Alec Holm (+900). Marcell Ozuna has also been announced for the derby, but Bovada hasn’t given Ozuna odds as of this writing.
Successfully betting $10 on Alonso at Bovada would win $30, and the same bet on Holm would return $90 should he win the derby.
Once more HR Derby contestants are named and given odds, some of the pricing could shift. If you like Henderson as much as I do, it might make sense to head to Bovada to place your bet before the other participants are made official.
Best 2024 HR Derby Bet
I’m picking Gunnar Henderson as my favorite to win the 2024 HR Derby. It’s rare to see a frontrunner with such favorable odds, especially at +500. If you bet on Henderson to win, and he does, you would win $50.
He has more home runs than any of the announced participants, though it’s worth mentioning that this is Henderson’s first HR derby to date.
Pete Alonso, meanwhile, won the derby both in 2019 and 202. Even so, despite this lack of experience, I’m still backing Gunnar Henderson to leave Arlington as the Home Run Derby king.
Tips for Betting on 2024 MLB All-Star Weekend
The 2024 MLB All-Star weekend betting strategy differs slightly from regular season and playoff baseball betting. Here are my top tips for betting on the weekend’s festivities.
Matchups Aren’t as Important
Since the game itself is an exhibition more than a game with potential standings/postseason implications, managers are much less likely to worry about strategic decisions like pitching matchups, historical batter vs. pitcher records, and batting orders.
It’s a good idea to focus your MLB All-Star Game betting on general game prop bets, such as number of wild pitches or home run totals—as opposed to performing in-depth research on statistics like left-handed-versus-right-handed matchups or starting pitchers’ strengths and weaknesses.
Take the Under
The MLB All-Star Game actually scores much fewer runs than you might think. Whereas it’s not uncommon to for NBA All-Star games to eclipse the 300 point mark.
While baseball’s best hitters are on the display for the game, so too are baseball’s best pitchers. Since load management is important for pitchers, they will rarely throw more than two or three innings as not to put additional mileage on their arms.
Because batters typically face fresh pitchers who are replaced before they get tired, offensive output is often limited during the All-Star Game. Therefore, I suggest leaning towards lower scoring rather than higher scoring when placing your bets, generally speaking.

I’m going with the oddsmakers for my 2024 MLB All-Star Weekend picks.
Gunnar Henderson isn’t the best home run hitter in baseball this year (though he’s close), but he is the best home run hitter of the derby’s announced participants.
The All-Star Game features an embarrassment of talent on both sides, and I can see why Bovada has the odds as close as they are. But at the end of the day, it’s hard for me bet against a team that simultaneously features Shohei Ohtani, Bryce Harper, and Paul Skenes.
