Patrick Mahomes leads the way with the best odds to win the NFL MVP in 2024, and why shouldn’t he? The guy is coming off his third Super Bowl win from a year ago, and his supporting cast may have gotten considerably better during the off-season.

Last year showed that Mahomes can will his team to success, so it stands to reason he can do the same for himself. Of course, he’s far from the only NFL MVP candidate you should consider.

You can take full advantage of the NFL MVP odds list above by heading to BetUS, or you can join me as I comb through the best bets to win this year’s award.

Why is Patrick Mahomes the 2024 NFL MVP Favorite?

It’s easy to see why Patrick Mahomes is the favorite to win the NFL MVP award in 2024. He’s typically the first guy most sportsbooks look to, likely because he’s regarded as the best passer in the league.

Why does this matter? Because the NFL MVP award is basically a nod to the quarterback position.

It’s quite rare that a non-quarterback wins the NFL MVP, so if you’re betting on who will win, it makes sense to start with the league’s most prolific passers. You also should consider dual-threat options that can dominate with their legs – as evidenced by Lamar Jackson nabbing these honors two different times.

Mahomes is a repeat winner of the NFL MVP, too. He won in 2022 with a 41-touchdown campaign, and he coasted to his first win in 2018 when he tossed a career-high 50 touchdowns.

It’s seasons like that – plus two other 37+ TD efforts – that keep Mahomes at the forefront of the NFL MVP discussion.

Mahomes also got by last year with young players and a banged up Travis Kelce. Despite not having much to work with, he still tossed 27 touchdowns and had over 4,100 yards through the air.

In theory, having a healthier Kelce and big-play additions such as Hollywood Brown and rookie speedster Xavier Worthy could give him his best supporting cast to date.

Top 2024 NFL MVP Contenders

Patrick Mahomes may be the favorite to win the NFL MVP this year, but the player with the best NFL MVP betting odds rarely actually wins.

Here are a few alternatives I think have a real shot at winning in 2024.

Josh Allen +800

It’s actually pretty amazing that Josh Allen hasn’t won the NFL MVP award already. He arguably got hosed in the two seasons where Aaron Rodgers won, and he was a viable contender again in 2023.

Seriously, just look at his personal production and his team’s success over the last several seasons.

Allen’s Passing ProductionAllen’s Rushing ProductionBuffalo Bills RecordYear
4,306 yards, 29 TDs524 yards, 15 TDs11-62023
4,283 yards, 35 TDs762 yards, 7 TDs13-32022
4,407 yards, 36 TDs763 yards, 6 TDs11-62021
4,544 yards, 37 TDs421 yards, 8 TDs13-32020

It is certainly worth noting that Allen also turns the ball over a good deal (18 picks alone in 2023), but he literally is Buffalo’s offense.

Last year his overall numbers were insane. He had triple the rushing scores Lamar Jackson had, and also trumped him in passing production. Team success is what got Jackson his second MVP, though.

Allen is as prolific as it gets and has the game of an NFL MVP award winner. Whether you bet on him will hinge on how you view his team in 2024.

Joe Burrow +900

Someone with a better shot at high-level team success might be Joe Burrow. His offense is completely loaded, with superstar Ja’Marr Chase being the standout impact player.

Burrow’s passing production rivals just about anyone’s when he’s at full strength, too. The hiccup there, of course, is he sustained a wrist injury and missed a chunk of games to close out 2023.

Yeah, it wasn’t good.

If Burrow is healthy, he’s more than viable for this NFL betting market. If not, he could be a total bust.

That said, the Bengals are consistently in contention for a title, having some of the best Super Bowl odds out there. If you’re looking for a quarterback who can package elite personal production and team success, Burrow is a good place to start.

CJ Stroud +1000

One more 2024 NFL MVP contender to consider is Stroud. He was absolutely sensational as a rookie, producing a hyper-efficient stat line and turning heads every step of the way.

Just as important? Stroud turned his Houston Texans around immediately. Not only did he get them back to the playoffs, but they laid waste to the Cleveland Browns in a round one whooping.

The sky is the limit for Strout, seeing as Houston has been extremely aggressive. Not only did the team acquire running back Joe Mixon, but they also landed Stefon Diggs.

On paper, the Texans are as loaded as anyone on offense. They also have a maturing defense that could make them a legit Super Bowl threat come 2024.

If you believe Houston can take the next step, betting on CJ Stroud to win the NFL MVP has to be on your radar.

NFL MVP Sleepers for 2024

Patrick Mahomes is a worthy NFL MVP favorite, and I’ve given you two other contenders that truly have a shot at winning this award. However, as is the case with any sports betting market, I am sure you’re hoping for a convincing wager that offers more upside.

That’s where my top 2024 NFL MVP sleeper picks come in, as I love Jordan Love and Justin Herbert to be viable options in this awards race.

Jordan Love +1400

There was a reasonable argument for Love winning the NFL MVP last year in his first full season as a starter. He ran hot and cold in the first half of the season, but by mid-season he was slinging it as well as anyone.

That isn’t even counting how magical he was in a playoff win against Dallas.

More specifically, Love put up over 4,100 passing yards and 32 touchdowns against just 11 interceptions, while adding another four scores on the ground. He also got the Packers into the playoffs after a slow start.

Once the dust settled, Love got further in the playoffs than the league MVP did. Admittedly, his team success wasn’t there, but he and this Green Bay Packers offense are expected to take a huge leap.

Green Bay is notoriously good at home down the stretch, with cold weather and a rowdy fan base making one of the best NFL stadiums a safe haven for Love and his squad.

Could all of this make the current Jordan Love NFL MVP odds a joke by year’s end? It’s certainly possible.

Justin Herbert +1800

Another interesting 2024 NFL MVP value bet is Justin Herbert. People have soured on him due to his weapons – Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler, and Mike Williams are all gone – but there’s reason for optimism.

The first thing is the change in scheme and the arrival of head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Under new OC Greg Roman, this offense should be much more balanced, should run the ball effectively, and ideally makes Herbert more efficient. Harbaugh is fresh off of a national title at Michigan and has won at every stop, too.

Herbert arguably has the best coaching staff of his career, and he still has some solid talent like incoming rookie Ladd McConkey and others.

Greg Roman specifically has been on the sidelines for some magical seasons – notably a Lamar Jackson MVP campaign – so counting Herbert out of the 2024 NFL MVP race feels like a mistake.

Tips for Betting on the NFL MVP Winner

Looking at the latest NFL MVP betting odds is the first step to submitting a winning bet for this market, but more goes into the process. If you’re new to betting on who will win the NFL MVP, consider these helpful tips before finalizing your wagers at BetUS or other online sportsbooks.

Place Your Bets Early

The first piece of advice I have for anyone betting on who will win the NFL MVP is to get your bets in early.

It’s anyone’s guess who actually wins the award, but the value you see now is probably as good as it’ll get. Patrick Mahomes may not live up to his favorite billing, but his +500 odds will spike if he has a huge week one performance.

Should another lesser known player rise up in the first few weeks, their astronomical price could evaporate in short order. If you feel really good about a bet to win the NFL MVP, act now.

Bet on QBs

The other thing is you need to bet on a quarterback to win this award. Christian McCaffrey gave NFL MVP voters every reason to buck the trend last year – his team was awesome, he broke a record, and he had 21 total touchdowns.

However, they didn’t budge, and once again chose a quarterback who maybe wasn’t even the rightful winner.

This has turned into a quarterback award, so any non-passer would need the season of a lifetime to have any kind of a chance. The safe bet is to target elite quarterbacks on good teams.

Bet on Jordan Love to Win the 2024 NFL MVP at BetUS

This year’s NFL MVP race does feel like it’s wide open. Patrick Mahomes is a solid betting favorite, and the fact that he’s on a good team, has won before, and plays the quarterback position all help him.

However, we always go into the new NFL season thinking we have the Most Valuable Player winner pegged. That probably isn’t the case, so we should look for a little more value when placing our bets.

Non-quarterbacks make for fun bets, but history says they’re a waste of time. I’d focus on quarterbacks only, and I’d also look for a player and/or team about to make a huge jump.

Right now my money is on Jordan Love to win the 2024 NFL MVP. His +1400 odds at BetUS are quite appealing and he’s a logical sleeper to target.

Green Bay was a different team in the second half last year, and their rising passer is the reason why. Love also has a plethora of dangerous weapons to work with, while the Packers should also take a positive step forward on defense.

After winning nine games and nearly reaching the NFC title game, this team seems primed for a big year. If they deliver, Love will surely end up putting up big numbers in the process.
