Week 5 NFL Picks Against the Spread text centered, betting imagery in background

Four teams are out of action this week, so there are only 14 games available for betting on NFL picks against the spread. Despite top teams being on a bye, there are plenty of thrilling games to bet on this week.

This free Week 5 betting guide will highlight my favorite NFL picks ATS, and I will tell you the best bets against the spread at top NFL sportsbooks this week.

Bovada Sportsbook provided the odds for my NFL expert picks against the spread.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+1.5) vs. Atlanta Falcons (-1.5)

Tampa Bay (3-1) and Atlanta (2-2) will square off on Thursday Night Football this week for the early lead in the NFC South division race.

This TNF matchup is the first game on my Week 5 NFL picks against the spread.

The Buccaneers dominated the Eagles in Week 4, beating Philadelphia 33-16 at home. Despite their impressive win, Tampa Bay is a 1.5-point underdog on the road this week against Atlanta. The Falcons also won last week, beating the Saints with a walk-off field goal to improve to 2-2.

I think the Buccaneers’ offense will be too much for the Falcons’ defense. Tampa Bay has looked dominant in three of its four games this year, and Baker Mayfield has accounted for 10 total touchdowns this season.

The Falcons offense, on the other hand, has struggled under new quarterback Kirk Cousins. I believe those struggles will continue this Thursday against the Buccaneers, and Tampa should cover its 1.5-point spread by winning this game outright.

I took the odds for this game (and all others in this post) from Bovada. Read our unbiased Bovada review before visiting the site if you’d like to learn more about the sportsbook.

Carolina Panthers (+3.5) vs. Chicago Bears (-3.5)

Another NFC South team that I have my eye on for my NFL against the spread picks this week is the Carolina Panthers. Carolina faces Chicago on Sunday, and the Bears are 3.5-point favorites, according to secure offshore sportsbooks. The Andy Dalton experiment hit a snag last week, with the Panthers losing at home to the previously winless Bengals, 34-24.

Dalton and Carolina are in for another rough week against Chicago. The Bears have one of the top defenses in the league and can create havoc on any given play. Carolina struggled at times against the Bengals’ defense, which has been one of the worst in the NFL this season.

Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams has also improved with each start for the Bears this year. He should continue his ascent in Week 5 against the Panthers’ defense, which has allowed the second-most passing touchdowns (9) and has the second-fewest sacks (5) this season.

The Bears can win this game with their defense alone. With Williams playing better and better each week, I also think they will cover their 3.5-point spread at home this weekend.

New York Jets (+2.5) vs. Minnesota Vikings (-2.5)

I bet against the Jets in my week 4 NFL picks against the spread. New York was favored by a touchdown at home against Denver, but the Broncos won outright, 10-9. I am picking against the Jets again this weekend as they travel to Minnesota to face the undefeated Vikings.

Minnesota (4-0) is favored by 2.5 points on Sunday in Bovada’s ATS odds. The Vikings have been dominant at home this season, beating the 49ers and the Texans by a combined score of 57-24. Minnesota’s defense also leads the NFL in sacks with 17 so far this year.

Aaron Rodgers and company, by contrast, are coming off their worst game of the season. Rodgers completed a season-low 57.1% of passes, and the team failed to score a touchdown against Denver. The 40-year-old quarterback was also sacked five times in Week 4, bringing his season total to 10.

Minnesota’s defense should hit Rodgers early and often, limiting the Jets’ offense. The Vikings’ offense will be able to exploit similar weaknesses as the 49ers did in Week 1, allowing for another big win by the Vikings.

Cleveland Browns (+3.5) vs. Washington Commanders (-3.5)

Cleveland is another team that has failed to live up to its expectations this season. The Browns lost to the Raiders last week, dropping Cleveland to 1-3. The best NFL betting sites have the Browns listed as +3.5-point underdogs on Sunday against the Commanders.

Washington (3-1) is one of the more surprising teams this season. The Commanders are the current divisional leaders in the NFC East, and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has seven touchdowns this year. Washington has also been one of the best rushing teams, leading the NFL with 10 rushing scores.

Conversely, Cleveland has failed to score more than 18 points in any game this season. Quarterback Deshaun Watson has only five touchdowns compared to his three interceptions and four fumbles this season.

Browns’ fans are in for a long season if Watson’s turnover issues continue. Washington is a 3.5-point favorite at home, and I think they will cover the spread easily on Sunday against Cleveland.

Dallas Cowboys (+2.5) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (-2.5)

The fifth and final spot on my list of the best NFL picks against the spread in Week 5 goes to the Cowboys.

Dallas is a 2.5-point underdog on the road in Pittsburgh in this cross-conference Sunday Night Football showdown.

Pittsburgh’s defense did not show up against the Colts last week, allowing Indianapolis to jump out to an early 14-0 lead. The Steelers allowed 26 points total in their first three games, but the Colts were able to score 27 on Sunday.

It could be another long day for the Steelers’ defense this week with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb coming to town. Dallas could be without Micah Parsons and Dexter Lawerence, but Pittsburgh has its own injury issues on its offensive line, evening the playing field.

This game will be strength-on-strength and weakness-on-weakness. Ultimately, I think the Dak-Lamb connection will be too much for the Steelers to overcome. Dallas should cover its 2.5-point spread with a win on SNF in Week 5.
