The show has made a distinct effort to hire well known actors with elite acting pedigree, so Olivia Colman coming in as the favorite shouldn’t be that shocking. Is she the first person you think of when trying to predict who will star in True Detective season 5? No, but she’s an interesting option.
The other actors and actresses on this list all have a case to be chosen as one of the leads. It’s also worth wondering what the True Detective 5 story will be. Season two had numerous leads and an intertwining narrative, but the other seasons have focused on two main leads.<.p>
Season one and three both stuck with popular male leads, while season two and season four featured actresses prominently. What will we see for season five? It’s anyone’s guess, and you can bet on it now at BetUS.

Colman is easily one of the more established actresses on this list. The 50-year old is the current top favorite to be cast in True Detective next, and if you look at her body of work, the match checks out.
Not only is Colman highly skilled (1 Oscar win and 175 award nominations under her belt), but she has an incredibly diverse acting portfolio, having excelled as Queen Elizabeth, making her presence felt in Marvel hit series Secret Invasion, and delivering an unforgettable effort in The Lost Daughter.
We shouldn’t ignore the other top contenders, of course.
Brian Tyree Henry was a scene-stealer in Bullet Train and is an incredibly underrated actor. Justin Theroux always left us coming back for more in the gripping The Leftovers, too.
Del Toro may be the most compelling name among the favorites, though, especially since he has proven he can be a seasoned detective already.
He thrived in the lead role for Reptile, which basically serves as the ultimate audition should the True Detective season 5 showrunners give him serious consideration.
Acting credentials alone make Colman an interesting pick. However, of the top threats based on pricing, Del Torro probably grabs my interest the most. You can bet on any of them to be cast in True Detective season 5, though.
Value Bets to Consider for Season 5
If you always bet on the favorites, you won’t get very far. That often can apply to entertainment betting markets, too.
The reality is it’s incredibly early in the process when it comes to figuring out who will star in True Detective season five. Do you remember hearing whispers about previous castings of this show? Yeah, me neither.
Heck, I didn’t know Jodie Foster would be in the fourth season until the trailer dropped.
That is probably what we’re in for again, which means it might make sense to chase down some value. If you’re game, I think the two best sleeper picks figure to be Ryan Gosling (+2000) and Kate Winslet (+2200).
Ryan Gosling (+2000)
True Detective has not been shy about recruiting massive names every time out. They launched this series with two superstars, and they keep bringing in established actors to help carry the torch. I see zero reason why that’d stop now, so betting on unknowns or mild stars feels like a mistake.
Gosling might be tough to get, but he’s probably one of the most famous actors on the circuit right now. He has experience diving into gritty atmospheres and has literally played detectives and private investigators before, as well.
Considering a lot of his work has been a bit more tongue in cheek lately, he may jump at the opportunity to take on a darker gig that could help attract even bigger and better projects down the road.
Kate Winslet (+2200)
Winslet also makes a lot of sense. Much like Del Toro, we’ve gotten a firsthand look at what she’d be like as a detective. Her work on Mare of Eastown was sublime, and some joke that it basically was another season of True Detective.
That hit mini series also resides on HBO, and Winslet is currently starring in another HBO vehicle. The familiarity between the two sides is key, but HBO also knows she’s a big name that has crushed this type of role. Her casting would make waves in a very good way and the True Detective decision-makers would know exactly what they’d be gettng.

Predicting Who Will Be Cast in True Detective Next

This is an especially fun wager to target if you’re a die hard fan of the show. You can gain a little added investment in the future of the franchise, and it’ll be double the fun if an actor you love (and bet on) gets the job.
If you want my top pick, I am going with Benicio Del Torro.
He’s the perfect option, as he’s a talented and experienced actor, he’s a huge name in Hollywood, and he proved recently he can absolutely nail the nuanced role of a seasoned detective. If you like him, feel free to target his +450 odds at BetUS.
Want a bit more upside with your bet? I still think a huge name like Gosling shouldn’t be ruled out, and Winslet’s connection to HBO (and beautiful work in Mare of Eastown) make me hopeful that she’d be in the running, too. Both actors have +2000 odds at BetUS and feel like viable bets.
I also understand wanting to wait for more information to come out about True Detective season five. Unfortunately, news travels fast in Hollywood. Once you hear anything concrete, this wager would be moot and/or the top betting sites would just take it down.
