  • UFC Middleweight champ Israel Adesanya has promised to “paint his nails and KO” Sean Strickland.
  • Tai Tuivasa is a +170 underdog against Alexander Volkov despite fighting in his hometown.
  • UFC 293 odds suggest that all Aussies apart from Tuivasa are set to win on Saturday.

The UFC 293 odds suggest MMA fans are in for a real treat on Saturday, September 9, 2023.

That’s when UFC 293: Adesanya vs. Strickland will take place in Sydney, Australia, where the home crowd will likely be on the side of “The Last Stylebender,” who’s from New Zealand.

Adesanya isn’t the only fighter from this part of the world who’ll get into the Octagon at UFC 293. In the co-main event of the evening, Sydney native Tai Tuivasa will take on Alexander Volkov.

There’s also Justin Tafa, Tyson Pedro, Jamie Mullarkey, and many others from this region.

The UFC Sydney is a PPV event headlined by a championship fight. There’s a lot of hype around this event, so it’s no surprise that leading sportsbooks have already released their UFC 293 betting odds.

You can find them at all the sites you see in the list above. Each of these sportsbooks has its own advantages.

For example, they all have some bonus deals up for grabs, and you can use sportsbook promos to your advantage in MMA betting. Still, I’d go with BetUS if I had to pick just one.

Not only is it giving away a fantastic welcome bonus (125% up to $2,500), but this betting site also offers the best UFC 293 odds for the bets I plan to make.

Latest Odds for UFC 293

Fighter A Odds Fighter B Odds
Israel Adesanya -650 Sean Strickland +425
Tai Tuivasa +170 Alexander Volkov -210
Manel Kape -365 Felipe dos Santos +265
Justin Tafa -250 Austen Lane +200
Tyson Pedro -140 Anton Turkalj +110

Jack Jenkins -215 Chepe Mariscal +175
Jamie Mullarkey -190 John Makdessi +160
Mike Mathetha +200 Charlie Radtke -240
Shane Young -165 Gabriel Miranda +135

The fighter with the shortest UFC 293 odds is Israel Adesanya, who’s expected to have an easy job in the UFC Sydney headliner. Excluding the main event, all the other fights look very spicy, at least judging by their UFC 293 betting odds.

Tai Tuivasa, for example, is a +170 underdog even though he’s fighting in his hometown. He’s 4-0 in fights held in Sydney and is 8-2 in Australia.

Another Australian who’s got a great record at home is Tyson Pedro. Unlike Tuivasa – who’s his brother-in-law – Pedro’s odds of -140 suggest he’s going to win.

Another fighter whose odds look interesting is Shane Young. The New Zealander saw his odds move from -115 to as much as -170 at sites like BetOnline and SportsBetting.ag.

Those are the sportsbooks to visit if you wish to bet against him, but if you want to back Young, the best value awaits you at either BetUS or Bovada (-165).

UFC 293 Main Event Preview: Adesanya vs. Strickland

The UFC 293 odds suggest this is a certain win for Israel Adesanya. The reigning UFC Middleweight champion is 24-2, with two-thirds of his wins happening by knockout/technical knockout.

When it comes to his losses, one happened by a split decision. It happened against Jan Blachowicz in Adesanya’s light heavyweight debut. The other happened to his kickboxing nemesis, Alex Pereira.

Pereira remains the only fighter to finish “The Last Stylebender” (by a TKO). It happened in late 2022, but a few months later, Adesanya got his revenge.  He KO-ed his opponent in March and has pledged to do the same to Sean Strickland on September 9. Actually, he plans to do so with painted nails.

There’s some bad blood between the two, which isn’t much of a surprise, knowing how controversial figure “Tarzan” is. Strickland hasn’t always been like that, but over the last couple of years, he’s become known for his controversial views and hardcore trash talk.

If Adesanya vs. Strickland were a trash-talk contest, the American would have extremely short UFC 293 betting odds. But this is an MMA fight, and “Tarzan” just doesn’t look capable of doing anything against the champ.

Sure, he’s a tough fighter with an impressive record (27-5), but he just is no match to Adesanya kickboxing.

Best Bets for UFC 293

Israel Adesanya is the safest bet on the fight card, but that’s why his UFC 293 odds aren’t too attractive. If you’re looking for a better value, backing Tai Tuivasa might be the way to go.

“Bam Bam” is my favorite underdog bet of UFC 293 for several reasons. First, Tuivasa is fighting on his turf. Born and raised in Western Sydney, he’s undefeated in his hometown.

Secondly, he’s looking to bounce back to the winning track after two straight KO losses (to Ciryl Gane and Sergey Pavlovich).

Speaking of KOs, 13 of his 14 wins happened by this method, and I suspect the same might happen in the UFC 293 co-main event.

Sure, the Russian is five inches taller and has a five-inch reach advantage, so getting to him won’t be easy, but I have faith in Tuivasa.

If you don’t have faith in him, Shane Young might be a better option for you. The New Zealand fighter is 0-3 in his last three UFC fights, so beating Gabriel Miranda in Sydney is a must for him. He’s a fantastic kickboxer who’s taking on a guy whose No. 1 focus is grappling.

Sure, there’s a danger that Miranda might submit to him, but I doubt Young will let him get anywhere near him. The New Zealander will protect himself by throwing a huge volume of strikes at his opponent.

There you have it, my top UFC 293 predictions. Excluding Tai Tuivasa, all my picks are for fighters with minus-money UFC 293 odds. Plus, most of them are for fighters who are coming from Australia and New Zealand.

In fact, Charlie Radtke is the only fighter not from that region who I think will win on September 9. The American fighter is a former Cage Fury champ who’s making his UFC debut in Sydney against “Blood Diamond” who’s 0-2 in this promotion.

Betting Advice for UFC 293

My final piece of advice for you is to install some sportsbook app on your device so that you can bet live on UFC 293. BetOnline is one of the best live betting sites you’ll find online, and the same goes for its sister site, SportsBetting.ag, as well as Bovada and BetUS.

The main reason why I think you should bet live on UFC 293 is that you might get better odds. Let’s take the Adesanya vs. Strickland fight as an example.

“The Last Stylebender” is a huge favorite to win, but “Tarzan” is as tough as they come, meaning he might not finish early.

If Adesanya doesn’t KO him in the first two or three rounds, UFC 293 odds will likely change.

They’re likely to move against Adesanya, and that’s when you should start backing him. He might not finish his opponent quickly, but he’s almost 100% certain to win in the end.

If you need a little more guidance before betting, our guide to the top UFC betting sites will provide that and some advice.
