The UFC 298 odds are out, and they suggest the next UFC PPV event will be a real banger. I honestly can’t remember the last time there were so many great matchups on a single card.

The Volkanovski vs. Topuria UFC Featherweight Championship fight is the headliner, but any main card fight could easily headline a regular UFC event.

Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski is the UFC Featherweight champion, but he almost became a double-champ last year. He fought Islam Makhachev twice for the 155lb title, losing each time but winning over the hearts of MMA buffs.

He threw everything he had at his opponent in their first fight, but the Dagestani fighter just did better wrestling-wise. At least Volk got his share of the Fight of the Night bonus. Not only that but at the end of 2023, it was voted the fight of the year.

Volk fought Makhachev once again a few months later, but this time he got KO-ed in the first round. It was a shocker to see him get his lights switched off, but I personally wasn’t too surprised, given that he agreed to the fight on just 11 days’ notice.

Now, he’s fighting Ilia Topuria on a full camp. “El Matador” is one of the best strikers in the division, but I think Volk can deal with him. He did get KO-ed by Makhachev, but Topuria isn’t as big and powerful as Makhachev.

Further, Volk has already proved he knows how to fight guys like Topuria. In his last title defense in the 145-pound division, he beat Yair Rodriguez by a TKO. I think he can do the same to Topuria as well.

I’ve already explained why I expect Alexander Volkanovski to win the UFC 298 main event. Now, it’s time to explain why I expect to see everyone’s favorite Robert Whittaker beat Paulo Costa.

Whittaker is among the nicest guys in the UFC, but this doesn’t mean he’s not brutal inside the Octagon. The evidence of this is that he’s already defeated such elite middleweights as Marvin Vettori, Jared Cannonier, Yoel Romero, and so on.

I don’t see why he can’t beat Paulo Costa, who’s been dodging fights for months, with his most recent fight happening in the summer of 2022. That’s when he beat veteran Luke Rockhold in the former champ’s final fight in the UFC.

From MMA’s darling, let’s move to one of the most hated fighters in the UFC. Whether he brought hate on himself, I won’t come into.

But the fact is that Ian Machado Garry has been getting a lot of abuse not only from MMA fans but also from fellow UFC fighters (e.g., Sean Strickland). The best way to get one over them is to prolong his unbeaten run to 14 wins.

These are my top betting predictions for UFC 298. I’m backing most of the fighters with minus-money UFC 298 odds, with the only notable exception being Mackenzie Dern, who’s priced at +180 at BetUS.

The reason why I think she might upset the odds on February 17 is that she’s a much, much better grappler than her opponent.

The bad news for her is that Amanda Lemos is a great striker, but if she can get her in a clinch, she’s going to win.
