An Overview of The Stars Group (Amaya) Software in 2024
Have you heard of the software company formerly known as Amaya Inc. or Amaya Gaming Group Inc.?
We say former because they’re now known as The Stars Group, a change they made in 2017.
But we’re getting ahead of ourselves – let’s start at the beginning.
A Brief Timeline of Amaya’s History
If you read their Wiki page, you’ll notice that the “Founded” date is 2001. That’s inaccurate – Amaya was founded in 2004.
Back then, this was the business model they followed:
This model led to several acquisitions.
For example, in 2011 they acquired Chartwell Technology.
Then in 2012, they acquired Cryptologic for $35.8 million. Amaya later sold the business-to-consumer side of things – the gambling sites like InterCasino, InterPoker and InterBing – to Goldstar Acquisitionco Inc. for $70 million in February 2014.
They also acquired Ongame and the land casino group, Cadillac Jack.
That’s about the extent of the information available about Amaya. There’s not much left of the details between them launching their business, their acquisition of the largest poker site online and their subsequent IPO.
Amaya Acquires the Rational Group
Amaya closed the deal on August 1, 2014. They agreed to acquire The Rational Group for $4.9 billion dollars. The deal included the two largest and/or most popular poker sites in the world, PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker.
The final payment was made on May 31, 2017.
This deal made them the largest publicly traded online gambling company as they’re traded on the NASDAQ and the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The Stars Group is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They employ more than 1,800 people.
Any remaining information about them revolves around their gambling products – namely poker, as PokerStars is by far their biggest product.
However, The Stars Group also offers live poker, a sportsbook and, of course, their casino. In the next section, we’ll look at some examples of the casino games you can play.
Examples of Amaya Casino Games
Amaya has hundreds of casino games you can play.
However, most of them come from third parties and subsidiaries. Some of the other software companies they get games from include Aristocrat, Bally’s, IGT, Leander and BetSoft.
That makes it harder to dig up Amaya’s games – especially since they don’t have tons to begin with. When combined with all the companies they’ve acquired and their name changing, it’s hard to know which games belong to whom.
We think we managed to get it sorted though. Below, you’ll find the games you can play from Amaya, which is organized by table games, video poker and slots.

Game Testing
Amaya boasts certification from independent auditing organizations like eCOGRA, Gaming Laboratories International, TST International, Cognosec, NMi Gaming and the European Betting & Gaming Association.
Licensing and Regulation
The Stars Group is one of the “most licensed online gaming companies in the world.” They have licenses or related approvals to operate from 17+ jurisdictions.
In October 2015, Amaya was given the authority to operate online in New Jersey by the Division of Gaming Enforcement.
According to then Amaya CEO, David Baazov:
“The DGE’s review of PokerStars was extremely thorough and exhaustive, including a detailed review of Amaya’s operations and technology, sworn interviews with more than 70 individuals and visits to approximately a half dozen international jurisdictions.”
“This stringent review found PokerStars to be under strong, ethical and trusted ownership and management with Amaya, and worthy of participating in New Jersey’s regulated online gaming market.”
We double checked and found that their games are now available for you to play.
Conclusion
That’s Amaya – or, rather, The Stars Group – in a nutshell.
They have loads of their own high-quality games and slots for you to choose from. Many of which are licensed titles.
Once you’re bored with those, you’ll have loads more to play from a variety of high quality software developers.
The Stars Group’s is licensed, and their games are regularly tested for fairness. They only operate in regulated markets, too.
