Super Triple Play Poker

Developed by IGT, Super Triple Play Poker is just like Triple Play Poker, except that you activate a bonus pay table by wagering a sixth coin bonus bet.

This means that you can play 3, 5, or 10 hands simultaneously with enhanced bonus payouts. The only catch is that you need to make the max 5 coin bet, plus an extra coin.

Is making the bonus wager worth it in terms of strategy?

Find out as we look at Super Triple Play’s betting options, rules, Super Triple Play feature, variations, the pay table, and strategy.

How to Play Super Triple Play Poker Video Poker

Super Triple Play Poker Betting

This game offers three betting options:

  • Play up to 3, 5, or 10 hands per turn.
  • Play 1 to 5 coins per hand.
  • Add a sixth coin to a 5 coin max bet to unlock the bonus pay table.

When the bonus bet is active, visit the pay table to see what enhanced payouts you receive. The bonus payouts are normally seen on the 4 of a kind and full house payouts.

The bonus wager offers positive expected value and should be made whenever you play this game. But note that this variant can be expensive when you’re playing multiple hands.

The machine comes in $0.25, $0.50, and $1.00 coin denominations.

Even at the lowest range, you’ll bet $1.50 per hand to play. If you want to play 3 hands, for example, you’d spend $4.50 per turn.

For this reason, Super Triple Play Poker video poker isn’t a great game for low rollers.

Playing Hands

You can choose to play the 3 hand Triple Play, 5 hand, or 10 hand variations. Once you select your betting options, click Deal to receive your hands.

You receive one face up hand at the bottom of the screen. If you’re playing multiple hands, all of the other hands remain face down.

Like any video poker game, you decide what cards to keep and discard in the bottom hand. Any cards that you hold will be reflected in the other active hands.

Here’s an example: you keep an ace and king in your bottom hand. These same two cards will be flipped over in all of your other active hands.

When you’ve finished making changes and click Draw, your bottom hand and other hands will be revealed and potential payouts are made accordingly.

Super Triple Play Bonus Bet

With the Super Triple Play bonus wager active, you unlock a special pay table with higher payouts for a 4 of a kind and other hands.

The exact bonus payouts that you get will vary by the video poker game you choose. With Jacks or Better, you receive bonus payouts for a straight flush, 4 of a kind, and a full house.

This not only makes it more exciting to get these hands, but it also raises your long term payback. That said, you should always make the Super Triple Play bonus bet.

Super Triple Play Poker Variations

Super Triple Play Poker comes in a multi game bundle, allowing you to choose a variety of games. Here’s a look at some of the different variations that you can pick when playing Super Triple Play Poker:

Jacks or Better: This is the standard pay table that most video poker variations are based on. The lowest qualifying payout is made on a pair of jacks.

Bonus Poker: You receive bonus payouts for different 4 of a kind hands, and these bonuses are further increased in Super Triple Play.

Deuces Wild: 2s deuces are wild, allowing you to form a 5 of a kind. The tradeoff for the wild cards is that a 3 of a kind is the lowest qualifying payout.

Deuces Wild Bonus: The same as Deuces Wild, with the exception of a bonus payout for four deuces and an ace kicker.

Double Bonus Deuces Wild: You receive bonus payouts for 5 of a kinds.

Double Bonus: You get bonus payouts for 4 of a kind hands, with the largest bonus being for four aces.

Double Double Bonus: Bigger bonus payouts for 4 of a kinds, including a special prize for 4 aces with a 2, 3, or 4 kicker.

Joker Poker: Includes a joker wild card, giving Joker Poker a 53 card deck. The tradeoff for the wild card is that the lowest qualifying payout is a pair of kings.

Super Double Bonus: Offers larger bonus payouts than Double Bonus for hands of four kings through jacks; four 5s through 10s; and four 2s through 4s.

Super Double Double Bonus: You earn even bigger bonus payouts for 4 of a kinds when compared to Super Double Bonus.

Super Triple Play Poker Table and Odds

Again, Super Triple Play’s bonus payouts vary depending upon which of the above games you choose. But for the sake of comparison, we’ve chosen Jacks or Better to show how pay tables change when you make the bonus bet.

As you’ll see below, the straight flush, 4 of a kind, and full house payouts all increase with the bonus bet active:

As the pay table differences show, a 5 coin max bet with the bonus wager results in the following payout increases:

  • Straight flush payout increase by 50 coins
  • 4 of a kind payout increase by 375 coins
  • Full house prize increases by 10 coins.

The downside is that you need to wager an extra coin to qualify for these bonus payouts. Even so, your expected value increases when you bet the sixth coin.

In the case of 9 / 6 Jacks or Better, you’re in line for 99.75% payback when you use the bonus bet. Contrast this to normal payback, which is 99.54%.

Watch Out for Lower Pay Tables

Given that you stand to earn higher payback with the Super Triple Play feature, it makes sense to play this game. But the one problem is that casinos will sometimes offer lower pay tables to counteract the bonus pay table’s value.

Instead of 9 / 6 Jacks or Better, you might see 9 / 5, 8 / 6, or 8 / 5 Jacks or Better on Super Triple Play machines. The same goes for other video poker variations that are offered through Super Triple Play.

Casinos know that they can still draw players with Super Triple Play due to the bonus aspect.

But don’t play this game for the novelty effect if you’re facing much lower payback due to the pay table changes.

Always Bet 5 Coins

We’ve already discussed why it’s important to make the 5 coin max bet along with a bonus wager to qualify for bonus payouts.

But another reason why you want to place the max bet is because of the royal flush increase.

If you get a royal flush on a 4 coin bet, you’ll earn 1,000 coins. But if you get a royal flush on a 5 coin wager, you’ll earn 4,000 coins.

This disproportionate jump is the sole reason why you want to bet 5 coins on Super Triple Play and other video poker variations.

Super Triple Play Poker Strategy

For the most part, Super Triple Play Poker strategy follows the game variation that you choose. You’ll find some slight nuances in strategy, but you can get close to optimal payback by using a strategy chart for each specific game.

It’s also nice if you can find an advanced video poker program that allows you to practice for this game. Let’s discuss this more below along with other important points.

Video Poker Trainers

The slight strategy variations that you’ll encounter in Super Triple Play have to do with going for the bonus payouts in certain instances.

One example includes holding a low pair over 4 cards to a flush because this gives you a better shot at the boosted 4 of a kind payouts.

Considering that we can’t find a strategy chart specifically for Super Triple Play, your best bet is to practice with a video poker trainer.

If you’re unfamiliar with trainers, these programs see you play video poker like normal. Any time that you make a mistake, the program will point out the correct decision.

You can find free video poker trainers, but we haven’t found a free program that offers Super Triple Play.

This being said, you should considering buying a program because they allow you to input specific pay tables and games like Super Triple Play.

Jacks or Better Strategy Chart

If you don’t want to pay for a video poker trainer, you can get pretty close to the 99.75% optimal payback in Super Triple Play Jacks or Better just by using a strategy chart.

The following is an extensive chart that’s meant to get you to 99.54% payback with 9 / 6 Jacks or Better.

The one change that we’ve made includes keeping a low pair over 4 cards to a flush and an unsuited K Q J T due to the enhanced 4 of a kind payouts:

  • Royal flush, straight flush, 4 of a kind
  • 4 cards to a royal flush
  • Full house, flush, straight, 3 of a kind
  • 4 cards to a straight flush
  • Two pair
  • High pair aces to jacks
  • 3 cards to a royal flush
  • Low pair 2s to 10s
  • 4 cards to a flush
  • Unsuited K Q J T
  • 4 cards to an outside straight with 0 2 high cards
  • 3 cards to a straight flush
  • Suited Q J
  • 4 cards to an inside straight with 4 high cards
  • Suited K Q, K J
  • Suited A K, A Q, or A J
  • 4 cards to an inside straight with 3 high cards
  • 3 cards to a straight flush
  • Unsuited K Q J
  • Unsuited Q J
  • Suited J T
  • 2 unsuited high cards with king high card
  • Suited Q T
  • 2 unsuited high cards with ace high card
  • Jack only
  • Suited K T
  • Queen, king, or ace only
  • 3 cards to a straight flush

Conclusion

If you like bonus payouts, Super Triple Play Poker is an excellent way to ramp up your video poker entertainment.

As we discussed with Jacks or Better, you get larger straight flush, 4 of a kind, and full house payouts. The 4 of a kind payout increase is especially notable because it offers 4x more than a normal Jacks or Better game.

You’ll see other large increases like this as you try different variations with Super Triple Play. And the exciting part is that you have a chance at bigger payouts and higher payback.

One drawback is that you have to bet an extra coin to qualify for bonus payouts. But most players won’t have difficulty betting a single coin given that they stand to win more money.

A bigger problem is that some casinos lower Super Triple Play Poker pay tables to keep you from getting such high payback. This is why it’s important that you hunt around casinos for the best deal.

As long as you can find good pay tables, then it’s definitely worth playing Super Triple Play Poker video poker.
