Caesar’s Empire Slot Machines
Developed by Realtime Gaming, Caesar’s Empire is a 5 reel, 20 pay line slot machine that’s found in online casinos.
Despite a short reign that lasted from 49 BC to 44 BC, Julius Caesar is one of the most famous rulers of all time.
The former general seized control of the world’s most powerful empire and instituted many important changes. He centralized the Republic, instituted social reforms, and created the Juliancalendar.
He’s also well known for his military campaigns, including the first invasion of Britain and the conquering of Gaul in Western Europe.
After making himself Dictator for Life in Rome, Caesar gained even more political enemies. This led to his famous assassination, where a mob of aristocrats participated in his murder.
Despite his unpopularity in many political circles at the time of his death, Caesar became immortalized in Roman culture due to his popularity with the middle and lower class.
The question we have is if Realtime’s online slot also immortalizes Caesar within the gaming world.
Find out as we cover this game’s atmosphere, music, animations, bonuses, betting options, and comparisons to other Roman themed slot machines.
Caesar’s Empire Slot Machines Overview
Atmosphere / Background
Caesar’s Empire features the Roman Coliseum in the background, which is a historical inaccuracy because the Coliseum wasn’t completed until 80 AD.
But most people aren’t history buffs, so few players will notice. We also assume that Realtime used the most iconic landmark they could to represent Rome, even if the timeline doesn’t match up.
Despite the inaccuracy, the background looks okay for a slot released in 2006 and does a good job of representing Rome.
Music and Sound Effects
The main game doesn’t feature any music, and you’ll only hear two unique sound effects during play.
One occurs when you land the Caesar wild in a winning payout, at which point you’ll hear a loud trumpet sound. The other occurs with the Roman Coliseum scatter, as a different trumpet soundplays.
Other sound effects include a loud noise when the reels stop with no win, and a short little jingle during non Caesar payouts.
These are nothing to get excited about because they’re heard in many older Realtime slot machines.
Animations
One animation in this game occurs with Caesar, where a coin changes into the legendary ruler. The other sees day turn to night behind the Coliseum.
Any other symbol involved in a payout disappears and reappears over and over, which doesn’t add anything to the game.
Caesars Empire Pay Table and Graphics
This game’s payouts and symbols include the following:
- Caesar Wild
The Caesar wild symbol appears on reels 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the main game, substituting for everything except the Coliseum scatter. Caesar also triples any winning combination that he helpsform. When forming wins on his own, Caesar pays 2,500 credits for 4 symbols, 250 credits for 3 symbols, 25 for 2, and 2 for 1.
- Coliseum
The Coliseum offers a payout that’s multiplied by your triggering bet when it lands 2 or more times anywhere on the reels. Your triggering bet will be multiplied by 100x for 5 symbols, 10xfor 4, 3x for 3, and 2x for 2.
- Cleopatra
The Queen of the Nile enters this game because she had a torrid affair with Caesar to prevent him from invading Egypt. Cleopatra pays 2,500 credits for 5 symbols, 250 for 4 symbols, 50 for 3,and 2 for 2. With Caesar, she offers 7,500 credits for 5 symbols, 750 for 4 symbols, 150 for 3, and 6 for 2.
- Helmet
The helmet pays 500 credits for 5 symbols, 100 for 4 symbols, 40 for 3, and 2 for 2. With Caesar, this symbol delivers 1,500 credits for 5 symbols, 300 for 4 symbols, 120 for 3, and 6 for 2.
- Sword and Shield
This symbol pays 200 credits for 5 symbols, 40 or 4 symbols, 15 for 3, and 2 for 2. With Caesar, the sword and shield offer 600 credits for 5 symbols, 120 for 4 symbols, 45 for 3, and 6 for2.
- Fruit Bowl
The fruit bowl pays 150 credits for 5 symbols, 25 for 4 symbols, 10 for 3, and 2 for 2. With Caesar, this symbol offers 450 credits for 5 symbols, 75 for 4 symbols, 30 for 3, and 6 for 2.
- A, K
These letters pay 125 credits for 5 symbols, 20 for 4, and 5 for 3. With Caesar, they pay 375 credits for 5 symbols, 60 for 4, and 15 for 3.
- Q, J
These letters offer 100 credits for 5 symbols, 15 for 4, and 5 for 3. With Caesar, they pay 300 credits for 5 symbols, 45 for 4, and 15 for 3.
- 10, 9
These numbers pay 100 credits for 5 symbols, 10 for 4, and 5 for 3. With Caesar, the numbers deliver 300 credits for 5 symbols, 30 for 4, and 15 for 3.
Symbol Graphics
Most of the symbols in this game look above average.
Cleopatra, the helmet, and sword and shield have solid graphics, especially for a slot from the mid 2000s. Caesar, the fruit bowl, and the Coliseum also look decent – just not as good as theother main symbols.
One complaint we have is the use of generic letters and numbers to fill out low paying symbols. This isn’t uncommon, but it seems that other aspects of Roman culture could’ve been used in theirplace.
Caesars Empire Slot Bonus Features
Free Spins
You trigger 10 free games by landing a Coliseum scatter symbol on reel 5, coupled with one or more Caesar symbols anywhere on the reels.
When free spins are triggered, the sky turns to night and festive Roman music begins playing.
Perks to these free spins include that Caesar can appear on reel 5, all wins are doubled, and Coliseum symbols are turned to either Caesar or Cleopatra.
Any time that Caesar lands on the reels, he awards you up to 5 more free spins.
Considering that Caesar lands on the reels a lot, we picked up plenty of extra spins. This made the 10 free games stretch to 20 30 spins every time we triggered the bonus.
Random Progressive Jackpot
This slot offers a random progressive jackpot that can be won on any spin, regardless of your bet size.
At the time of this writing, the jackpot is only worth $1,208. This isn’t much by jackpot standards, but it’s still fun to play for since you qualify on any wager.
Betting Options
You can change pay lines from 1 20 using either the buttons on both sides of the reels, or the arrows beneath the reels.
Your coin denomination can be changed from $0.01 to $5.00. This makes the minimum bet worth one cent and the max wager worth $100.00.
Other Options
Other options include the ability to turn sound on / off and spin the reels using auto play.
You can set auto play to stop during the following: after X number of spins, when a jackpot is won, if a win exceeds X, after any win, if your balance increases by X, or if your balance decreasesby X.
Win Frequency
The win frequency in this slot is average, and we won about a third of our spins when playing 20 pay lines.
Caesar helps create plenty of winning combinations. But since he also triples any win that he appears in, the win frequency gets dragged down.
Return to Player RTP
You won’t immediately notice this high return due to the average win frequency. But thanks to the multipliers, you’ll notice a difference over the long haul.
Comparison to Other Roman Slot Machines
Gladiator
Based on the 2000 film starring Russell Crowe, Playtech’s Gladiator slot can be found in many online casinos.
The Ridley Scott directed movie was an instant hit, generating over $457 million at the box office. And Playtech does an excellent job of living up to the movie with this 5 reel, 25 pay line slotmachine.
Most of the main characters make appearances on the reels, including Commodus played by Joaquin Phoenix, Lucilla played by Connie Nielsen, Senator Gracchus played by Derek Jacobi, and Juba playedby Djimon Hounsou. Likely due to a licensing issue, Crowe’s picture doesn’t appear anywhere in the slot.
While the real life movie characters are nice, what really brings this slot together is the main game’s music, which is a somber tone that reflects the movie’s mortality.
Gladiator also has two bonus rounds, both of which see you select different objects for prizes.
Based on the graphics and real life images used in this game, Gladiator is the best Roman themed slot that we’ve played.
GamePlay’s Roman Empire
This 5 reel, 30 pay line slot from GamePlay Interactive is a dramatic take on the Roman Empire. The music says as much because you’ll hear a powerful tune the entire time that you’re playing.
The graphics are really good in this game, especially with regard to the swords stuck in the ground, Roman pots, coins, and some of the characters.
The background also looks great since it features a worn temple, a soldier on the right side, and a queen on the left side.
Roman Empire’s bonus is a wheel that spins and offers you a prize worth a multiple of your triggering bet. You can also double any win by picking whether a coin flip will come up heads or tails.
The features aren’t overly impressive in this game, but the graphics, music, and animations are. That said, Roman Empire is another modern online slot that we pick above Caesar’s Empire.
Conclusion
From salad dressing to Caesar’s Palace resort, many reminders of the legendary Julius Caesar still exist today. Unfortunately, we don’t see Realtime’s Caesar’s Empire being another iconic symbolthat people think of when the Roman ruler comes to mind.
This slot has the bare minimum of animations and sound effects. You’ll also see some generic symbols on the reels, like letters, numbers, and a fruit bowl.
The atmosphere is okay, but history buffs will frown on the use of the Roman Coliseum here. It would also be nice to see more than free spins being offered as a bonus.
Despite its shortcomings, Caesar’s Empire has some good qualities.
First off, the RTP is 97.5%, which is about as good as it gets in online gaming. We also like how both the Caesar wild and Coliseum scatter give you multipliers.
The graphics are also above average, which is tough to achieve for a slot that’s over a decade old.
Another likeable quality to Caesar’s Empire is how you can win a progressive jackpot on any spin.
Considering that there are some good aspects to Caesar’s Empire, this slot is worth a few spins if you like games dealing with ancient Rome. But then again, there are plenty of modern slots thatportray the same theme, only with better graphics, music, and features.
