King Tiger Slot Machine

Developed by NextGen Gaming, King Tiger is a 5 reel, 20 pay line slot machine that’s found in online casinos.

Tigers are native to Asia, especially Southeast Asia, and King Tiger reflects this by taking place in an Asian jungle.

You’ll not only see tigers in this slot adventure, but also other forms of wildlife found in Asian jungles.

Of course, slot machines based on animals are nothing new in the gaming world. And it’s easy for a game like this to blend into the woodwork when compared to the sea of animal themed slots.

Let’s discuss if King Tiger offers anything unique by covering this game’s atmosphere, sound effects, animations, pay table, graphics, bonuses, and comparisons to similar slot machines.

Overview

Atmosphere – Background

King Tiger takes place in a secluded Asian jungle, complete with tall grass, trees, and shrubbery. You’ll also see light shining through the trees, which creates a warm atmosphere.

The foreground graphics are strong, but the light coming through the trees in the upper screen makes this section blurry.

This isn’t the greatest background that we’ve seen in a slot machine, but it creates a unique atmosphere.

Music and Sound Effects

When you spin the reels, you’ll hear a generic tune that’s heard in other NextGen slot machines. The same can be said of the sound effects following most of your winning pay outs.

The only unique sounds that you’ll hear in this game include the tiger roaring when it appears in wins, and a majestic Asian tune playing for the lotus flower scatter.

The buffalo, crane, and deer don’t have distinct sounds that players would recognize, but we’re surprised that the elephant doesn’t roar during winning pay outs.

Animations

The game opens with a title screen, where a Bengal tiger takes up the left side of the screen, and a water buffalo takes up the right side.

You’ll see a few animations during winning pay outs, including the lotus flower contracting and shooting out petals, the tiger swinging its head around while roaring, and other symbols movingtowards and away from the screen.

While it’s nice that this game features a few animations, it would be better if King Tiger had animations for some of the other animals.

Pay Table and Graphics

King Tiger’s symbols and pay outs include the following:

  • Tiger Wild – The tiger appears as a stacked wild and substitutes for every symbol except the lotus flower scatter. Only found on reels 2, 3, and 4, the tiger doesn’t offer anypay outs on its own.
  • Lotus Flower Scatter – The scatter symbol offers a multiplier pay out on your triggering bet, including 100x your triggering bet for 5 symbols, 10x for 4 symbols, 5x for 3, and2x for 2.
  • Elephant – With its trunk raised for good luck, the elephant pays 5,000 credits for 5 symbols, 200 for 4 symbols, 100 for 3, and 3 for 2.
  • Water Buffalo – The buffalo pays 1,000 credits for 5 symbols, 100 for 4 symbols, 300 for 3, and 2 for 2.
  • Crane, Deer – These two animals pay 500 credits for 5 symbols, 75 for 3, and 20 for 3.
  • A, K – The A and K offer 200 credits for 5 symbols, 50 for 4, and 15 for 3.
  • Q, J – These two symbols pay 150 credits for 5 symbols, 20 for 4, and 10 for 3.
  • 10, 9 – These numbers pay 100 credits for 5 symbols, 15 for 4, and 5 for 3.

Symbol Graphics

The symbols in King Tiger feature good graphics, with the tiger, elephant, and buffalo having really strong detail.

The crane, deer, and flower aren’t as impressive, but they still look good enough.

Our only complaint is that NextGen used letters and numbers to fill out the low paying symbols. With so many animals running through Asian jungles, it seems that NextGen could’ve used some moreunique symbols.

Bonus Features

King Tiger is light on bonus features since you can only trigger free spins and gamble your winnings. Here’s a look at both special features.

  • Free Spins

When you trigger 10 free spins by landing 3 or more lotus flowers anywhere on the reels, you’ll hear a loud ringing and the background will turn into a dark pink shade. Music also playsduring free spins, which is a nice change for the main game. The only problem is that the tune doesn’t come close to matching the theme. The biggest perk of the free games is that all wins aretripled. You can also retrigger free spins by landing 3 or more flowers anywhere on the reels. Free games are played at the number of lines and bet size that you triggered the bonus with.

  • Gamble Feature

You can gamble your winnings following any win by clicking the Gamble button at the bottom of the screen.

This brings up a green screen with a playing card in the middle. You can double your winnings by correctly choosing whether the card’s color will be red or black. You can quadruple yourwinnings by guessing if the card’s suit will be clubs, diamonds, hearts, or spades.

The Gamble feature continues until you choose Take Win or make an incorrect guess. Regarding the latter, you lose both your triggering bet and any winnings earned ruing the Gamble round.Youcan win five consecutive times before you’re forced to return to the main game and perform another spin.

Betting Options

You can adjust pay lines from 1 – 20 using either the buttons on the sides of the reels, or the plus /minus buttons underneath the reels.

You can adjust your coin denomination from €0.01 to €2.00. This makes the minimum bet worth €0.01, and the max wager worth €40.00.

You can turn both the coin size and pay lines up to the highest amounts by clicking the Max buttons next to each option.

Other Options

Once you’ve set your betting preferences, you can keep the reels spinning automatically by clicking the Auto play button. This allows you to use a sliding button to adjust the number of spinsthat you want to keep the reels spinning for.

You’ll also see a Last Settings button that keeps track of your Auto play settings from the previous session.

You can turn sound on and off by clicking the speaker button in the lower left hand corner.

Win Frequency

The win frequency in King Tiger is average for a 20 pay line slot machine.

In our experience, this game is very streaky since we had times where we’d win 3 –  4 times in a row, then lose 10 consecutive spins.

The tiger helps form plenty of wins, while the lotus flower gives you lots of 2 symbol scatter wins. But this still isn’t enough to make King Tiger’s win frequency better than average.

Return to Player RTP

RTP for King Tiger is 95.05%, which is average for an online slot.

Considering the average win frequency and RTP, chances are that you’re not going to win much money through King Tiger.

But given that you can bet as little as €0.01 per spin, this game is inexpensive to play. We recommend playing all 20 pay lines for €0.20 so that you aren’t waiting forever on wins.

Game Rules

King Tiger features standard rules for a 5 reel machine, which you can read below:

  • Pay line wins are multiplied by the amount staked per line.
  • Scatter wins are multiplied by the total amount staked.
  • If two or more wins occur on the same pay line, only the highest win is paid.
  • All wins are formed from left to right in consecutive reels, except for the flower scatter symbols.

Comparison to Other Animal Themed Slot Machines

Microgaming’s Mega Moolah

This 5 reel, 25 pay line online slot is known less for its theme and more for its life changing jackpots. Mega Moolah has created hundreds of millionaires over the years, including Jon Heywood, who won €17,879,645 in 2015.

Beyond its massive progressive jackpot, Mega Moolah features an interesting African savannah theme that features an elephant, gazelle, giraffe, lion, buffalo, and zebra. The lion is especiallyimportant because he’s the wild symbol and substitutes for everything except the scatter.

As opposed to King Tiger’s realistic graphics, Mega Moolah is cartoonish and shows many of the animals with smiles. King Tiger has better graphics, but Mega Moolah is good if you’re in the moodfor a light hearted game.

Much like King Tiger, Mega Moolah only offers free spins as a bonus. But this slot also features Mini, Minor, Major, and Mega progressive jackpots, which are seeded at $10, $100, $10k, and $1million respectively.

You only have to make the $0.25 minimum bet to qualify for any one of these jackpots. Considering that the Mega jackpot is normally worth millions of dollars, this is why so many people enjoyplaying Mega Moolah.

But beyond the jackpots, we wouldn’t say that Mega Moolah is a better game than King Tiger.

Aristocrat’s Wild Panda

This 5 reel, 100 pay line slot takes you into an Asian bamboo forest where pandas dwell.

The stage is set as you’re greeted by a panda eating bamboo on the title screen. The background does a poor job of following the title screen since it’s a bamboo forest covered in a dark redtint.

We don’t like the symbols either because they’re reflective of a generic Asian slot machine, rather than a panda and its habitat. You’ll see a Chinese temple, koi fish, lotus flower, umbrella, and generic letters / numbers.

Strangely, the panda doesn’t appear in the game until you trigger free spins by spelling P A N D A on the reels.

Triggering free spins by spelling PANDA, and the 100 pay lines are the most redeeming qualities about Wild Panda. But other than these unique aspects, King Tiger is the higher quality slotmachine.

Conclusion

King Tiger may be just another animal themed slot, but it does have some aspects that set it apart from other games.

For starters, King Tiger has a distinct atmosphere that includes tall grass, shrubs, and trees. We also like how several wild animals found in Asian are featured as symbols.

The symbol graphics are good too, with the buffalo, elephant, and tiger looking particularly impressive.

Another likeable aspect of this slot is how the free spins feature a changing background, music, and a 3x multiple on wins.

Downsides to King Tiger include the limited number of sound effects, animations, and special features.

Only a couple of unique animations and sound effects happen during wins. But this isn’t enough to make King Tiger truly stand out in a crowded field of animal slots.

We also don’t like how this game’s win frequency and RTP are average. When playing a simple 5 reel slot like this, it’s always nice to get frequent wins to spice up the action.

Without a life changing jackpot, frequent special features, or outstanding music / animations, King Tiger isn’t a must play slot machine. But it does have some redeeming qualities that make itworth trying if you like tigers or just animal slots in general.
