Moon Goddess Slot Machine

Moon Goddess is a 5 reel, 30 pay line slot machine that was developed by Bally for land based casinos, then later adapted for online play.

The game is based on a mixture of mythology and astronomy.

The goddess isn’t defined, but one could guess that Selene, the Greek moon goddess, serves as the inspiration here. Selene is described as being beautiful and having lovely hair, both of whichwould fit the goddess depicted in this slot.

With two themes, Moon Goddess already has one thing going for it. But does this slot machine offer anything else that makes it worth playing?

Find out as we discuss Moon Goddess’ betting options, graphics, pay table, and bonus features. We’ll also compare Moon Goddess to other mythological and outer space themed slots.

Overview

The setting is the single best aspect of this slot machine.

You see a vast galaxy in the background, complete with shooting stars, gleaming planets, and the moon. Considering that this is one of Bally’s older slot machines, we’re really impressed with thebackground.

You’ll also see the Moon Goddess – a beautiful woman with wavy, purplish black hair and a jewel filled headband. The combination of the goddess and outer space background does an excellent job ofbringing the theme together.

One more thing that compliments the setting is the music, which is a mysterious tune that fits the outer space angle. What’s odd is that this tune has been used in multiple other Bally slotmachines, so it should feel generic. But oddly, it’s the perfect fit for Moon Goddess.

Graphics and Animations

Once again, we love Moon Goddess’ background since the outer space depiction and goddess look outstanding. Unfortunately, the symbols don’t have the same quality.

Main symbols like the moon, planets, temple, and pendants lack the same detail seen in the background. This isn’t to say that they look unsightly, but the symbols aren’t going to impress youeither.

This slot is low on animations since the only notable one occurs when the Moon Goddess becomes an expanding wild. When the symbol expands, you see the moon and stars behind the goddess along withmore of her body.

Betting Options

The 30 pay lines are fixed, but you can adjust your coin denomination from $0.01 to $1.00. This makes for a minimum bet of $0.30 per spin and a max wager of $30.00.

The $0.30 minimum is nothing unusual for land based slot machines. But it’s standard for online slots to allow you to adjust pay lines, which Moon Goddess doesn’t.

Once you’ve chosen your betting options, you can auto spin the reels for 5 25 spins to speed up the game.

The only other option that you have is the ability to turn sound on and off.

Return to Player

Return to player RTP for Moon Goddess is 93.96%, which is good for a land based slot machine, but below average for an online slot. In comparison, the industry standard for online RTP isbetween 95% and 96%.

Moon Goddess Pay Table

Symbols and payouts for Moon Goddess are as follows:

  • Moon Goddess Wild

The goddess is wild and expands to fill an entire reel when appearing in reels 2, 3, and 4. The Moon Goddess will substitute for all symbols, including the moon scatter if it helps form awinning combination.

  • Wild Icon

The wild icon only appears during free games and substitutes for all symbols during the bonus.

  • Moon Scatter

When the moon lands on reels 2, 3, and 4, the Wheel Bonus Feature is triggered. The moon offers no payouts on its own.

  • Planets

This symbol features a view of Earth and Mars through a stone arch opening. It pays 1,000 credits for 5 symbols, 500 for 4, and 100 for 3.

  • Temple

Featuring the moon in the background, the temple pays 400 credits for 5 symbols, 150 for 4, and 75 for 3.

  • Diamond Pendant

The diamond pendant pays 300 credits for 5 symbols, 150 for 4, and 60 for 3.

  • Orange Pendant

The orange pendant pays 200 credits for 5 symbols, 120 for 4, and 45 for 3.

  • Sapphire Pendant

This pendant pays 150 credits for 5 symbols, 75 for 4, and 30 for 3.

  • A and K

The A and K pay the same amount, offering 75 credits for 5 symbols, 45 for 4, and 10 for 3.

  • Q and J

These letters both pay 60 credits for 5 symbols, 30 for 4, and 5 for 3.

The symbols look alright in comparison to other slot machines, although, as discussed before, they’re not on par with the background.

Our biggest complaint is with the originality, because the only distinguishable symbols include the Moon Goddess, moon, planets, and temple. The pendants and letters are just filler for themid-range and low paying symbols.

Moon Goddess Slot Bonus Features

This slot features two bonus rounds in the Wheel Bonus Feature and free games. Here’s a detailed look at both bonus rounds.

Wheel Spin Feature

When you land 3 or more moons anywhere on the reels, the Moon Goddess’ face takes up the screen to indicate that you’ve triggered the bonus. You’re taken to a second screen where you see a starrysky above, and a large wheel beneath the sky.

The wheel has different spaces for free games and credit prizes. Credit prizes are multiplied by your triggering stake, while you can also win 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, or 15 free spins.

Free Games

If you land on a free games space, you’ll get free spins along with a 2x multiplier. These spins are played with the triggering bet and number of pay lines that you used prior to the bonus.

The Moon Goddess expanding wild is absent from free spins, while the moon scatter doesn’t offer any pay or bonus. Instead, a wild icon substitutes for other symbols to help from winningcombinations.

Comparison to Other Mythological Slot Machines

Moon Goddess is similar to some other mythological and / or outer space slot machines. We’ve selected a few below to compare to Moon Goddess in regard to several aspects.

Astral Luck

Developed by Realtime Gaming, this 5 reel, 50 pay line slot deals with outer space and zodiac signs. That said, Astral Luck is far more enjoyable if you understand zodiac signs.

The background is comparable to Moon Goddess since if features planets and stars. The big difference, though, is that Astral Luck doesn’t define reels and pay lines with actual lines, giving youa better view of the universe behind them.

We also like the sound effects and music, with a mysterious tune playing every time that you spin the reels. You’ll hear various sounds for different payouts, with each one relating to the game’stheme

As for betting options, you can change pay lines from 1 50 and adjust coin denomination from $0.01 to $0.25. This makes for a minimum bet of one cent and a max wager of $12.50 per spin.

Special features include: an expanding wild symbol, free spins, and Astral Rings bonus. All free spins have a 3x multiplier, and you get 5 free spins for 3 symbols, 10 for 4, and 20 for 5.

When the Astral Rings bonus is triggered, you’ll see a two layered wheel appear with different zodiac signs. Your prize is determined by which two symbols line up at the top of the wheel.

Overall, Astral Luck has several things going for it, including free spins, a second screen bonus, great graphics, and flexible betting options. The only complaint we have is that every symbol isa zodiac sign, which you won’t like if you’re not into astrology.

If you know zodiac signs well, then you’ll enjoy Astral Luck better than Moon Goddess. If not, you’ll enjoy the latter slot machine more.

Cupid and Psyche

This is Bally’s lone other mythological slot machine that was adapted for online play.

Cupid and Psyche is a 5 reel, 40 pay line slot that’s based on a Roman tale about Psyche undergoing difficult tasks to marry Cupid.

The first thing that stands out about this game in comparison to Moon Goddess is how its background isn’t as detailed. You see nondescript statues and Roman architecture in the background that doa mediocre of setting the story.

The symbol graphics aren’t much better since the detail in Cupid, Psyche, bullseyes, and the harp is subpar. Just like Moon Goddess, these are the only distinguishable symbols in the game whilethe rest are generic letters.

The best aspect to Cupid and Psyche is the free spins, which are triggered by 3 or more blue bullseyes anywhere on the reels. You always receive 12 free spins, but the multiplier on yourtriggering stake depends on if you get 3 blue bullseyes 3x, 4 bullseyes 10x, or 5 bullseyes 25x.

Red bullseyes show up during the bonus round only, and they help you turn entire reels wild during free spins. Every four red bullseyes that you accumulate during the bonus turns one reel wild, and you can form up to four stacked wild reels during free games.

Considering how simplistic Cupid and Psyche is in other areas, we like how the free spins have so much detail. But overall, this slot machine doesn’t compare to Moon Goddess in terms of graphics, music, or atmosphere.

Golden Goddess

IGT’s Golden Goddess centers on a generic mythological scene, with picturesque mountains in the background. Aside from mountains, the background features a stone staircase, temple, and grassyvalley.

Symbols include the Golden Goddess icon, Golden Goddess, man, Pegasus, white bird, rose, and generic letters. The icon is wild and substitutes for everything except the rose scatter symbol.

The big feature to Golden Goddess is Super Stacks, which refers to how reels contain stacks of symbols that transform into other symbols once a spin begins.

Here’s an example: reel 1 and 2 are filled with the man and white bird at the end of a spin, and they change into stacked reels of the Golden Goddess and Pegasus once the new spin starts.

If the rose appears in reels 2, 3, and 4 simultaneously, you trigger 7 free spins. Before the spins start, you select one of the roses to reveal which symbol the stacked symbols transform intoduring the bonus.

While the free spins and Super Stacks are nice, the best aspects of Golden Goddess are the graphics and music. The bird sounds and divine music do a great job of matching the rural mountainscene.

Considering that the atmosphere in Moon Goddess is also really good, we consider these slot machines on equal footing.

Conclusion

Bally did an outstanding job of creating a dual theme that relates to both mythology and astronomy. Not only do you have the Moon Goddess incorporated into several areas of the game, but you alsosee an outer space background too.

The music – although used as a generic Bally tune – also fits in well with the theme and creates a sense of mystery behind the game.

Another likeable aspect about Moon Goddess is how it offers an expanding wild symbol, free spins, and the Wheel Bonus Feature. The expanding wild comes up frequently enough to make a differenceand help you win big payouts.

The Wheel Bonus Feature is nice because it takes you to a second screen and gives you the opportunity to win one of many prizes.

Moving to the downsides, the symbol graphics are merely average and don’t compare to the detailed background. The only symbol that stands out is the Moon Goddess, and that’s because this is thesame picture used in the background.

Another negative is the lack of original symbols, with most of them revolving around generic letters and different colored pendants. With how well Bally nailed the atmosphere, it would‘ve beennice if they also included more unique symbols.

Despite the downsides, Moon Goddess features a good enough background and overall atmosphere that we recommend you try this slot machine.
