A significant portion of our analysis when ranking the best March Madness betting sites involves focusing on the following criteria:
- Bonuses: We look for the best betting sites that give players a wide range of beneficial bonus promotions for betting on The Big Dance, including matched funds, free bets, low rollover requirements, and betting tournaments.
- Entertainment Features: Sportsbooks with entertaining features are rated highly in our book, features such as NCAAB props, futures, parlays, live betting, boosted odds, and more.
- Security: Players should feel secure betting on college basketball online, which is why we asses security features including Transport Layer Security (TLS) data encryption, identity verification requirements, and proper licensing with local authorities. We also prefer sites with accessible customer service to assist with resolving security concerns.
- Transactions: We feel that March Madness bettors should have a wide range of credit card, ewallet, and cryptocurrency deposit and withdrawal methods available, as well as low/no fees and reasonable processing times. This is why we take a close look at the banking options for each sportsbook we cover.
The Jackpot Meter
Our analysis extends beyond our own first-hand experience using the Jackpot Meter, a system we created that automatically locates and collects online casino reviews from experts and players alike. When a March Madness betting site has more positive than negative reviews it’s Jackpot Certified; and Bust when it doesn’t.
How to Bet on March Madness Online

Visit one of our recommended betting sites and click the “Join” or “Sign Up” button, which is usually in the top right corner of your screen. Fill out your personal information, and click register.

Next you add money to your account by selecting your preferred payment method, which is normally a credit card, ewallet, or cryptocurrency. You’ll also want to select a welcome bonus, if applicable.

The sportsbook will have the most popular sports listed on the left side of the screen. Scroll to the College Basketball/NCAAB section, and locate the bet you want to make.

All you have to do to make your wager is find the contests and markets you want to bet on. Simply click the odds of the team, prop, future, or other bet that you want to place, and it will be automatically added to your bet slip. From there you can enter how much you want to bet, either individually or as a collective multi-bet wager.

Verify that you’ve entered the correct bet you want to make with the proper amount you want to wager. Once everything looks good, simply click “Bet” and wait to see if your wager wins!
Types of March Madness Bets
There’s a lot more to betting on March Madness than just predicting wins. The following wager types bring a lot of variety and excitement to betting on The Big Dance:
Moneylines
Moneyline bets are the most straightforward bets in sports — including college basketball — as you simply choose which team you think will win. The team with the lower odds in parentheses is the favorite to win. So if Kansas (-800) is playing Baylor (+300), Kansas would be considered the favorite.
Totals (Over/Under)
The Totals (also called over/under) bet predicts whether a given game will exceed a certain combined point total. So if a game has an over/under of 160, you can place a bet on whether the total score between the two teams will go over 160 or not. If you bet on the under and the game finishes 80-70, you’d win the since the totals score is below 160. But if it finishes 100-75, you’d lose since it went over 160.
Spread
Betting on the Spread during March Madness involves predicting how much a team will win by. For example, if Kansas has a (-10.5) spread against UNLV (+10.5), that means oddsmakers think Kansas will beat UNLV by more than 10 points. So if Kansas wins by 11 points or more, you’d win. But if they only win by 9 you’d lose since Kansas didn’t cover the spread.
Sportsbooks often add (.5) to avoid Pushes, which is when a team wins by the exact spread and the bettor simply has their wager returned. The (.5) ensures that there is a clear winner on each Spread bet.
March Madness Champion
This is as straightforward of a bet as there is: who will win the March Madness tournament and become National Champion? Most sportsbooks accept wagers on nearly every team in the tournament. And since the odds of a particular team winning increase after every round, it’s best to get your wagers in early to lock in the best possible odds; along with the biggest potential winnings.
To Reach Final Four
Many sportsbooks online accept wagers for which teams will make the Final Four. This allows you to bet on who will be one of the last four teams standing, whether they win the entire tournament or not. And like the March Madness Champion bet, the earlier you get your Final Four bet in, the better chance you have to secure the most favorable odds.
Conference Tournament Winners
While not March Madness per se, you can bet on the feeder tournaments that give teams an automatic berth into the tournament. 32 of the 68 teams that start the Big Dance’s are supplied through regional tournaments, and you can bet on which team will win tournaments like The ACC, The Big 10, and SEC, among others.
March Madness Prop Bets
March Madness Proposition bets, or Prop Bets, predict a variety of in-game outcomes that don’t affect the final score. They can describe both team and player events, and add an extra layer of entertainment to the college basketball betting experience. Some common Prop bets include:
- Player Point Totals — Whether a specific player will score more or less than a predetermined number of points in a game.
- Player Assist Totals — Whether a specific player will get more or less than a predetermined number of assists in a game.
- Player Rebound Totals — Whether a specific player will reach a certain number of rebounds in a game.
- Triple-Doubles — Predicts whether a player on either team will score a triple-double (More than 10 points, assists, and rebounds) in the game.
- March Madness MVP — Which player will be selected as the Most Valuable Player (MVP)of the tournament. The MVP is often part of the team what wins the whole tournament, but not always.
- First Player to Score — Who the first player to score in a game will be.
- Team Point Totals — Whether a team will score more or less than a predetermined number of points in a game.
- Team Three Pointers — Predicts whether a team scores more or less than a certain number of three point shots in a game.
- Highest Scoring Half – Describes betting on whether the first or second half of a game will feature the most combined points scored by both teams.
- Overtime — Whether the game goes to overtime or not.
March Madness Betting Tips
Betting on March Madness is never guaranteed, like any gambling activity. But you can increase your chances to win by following these tips on betting on The Big Dance:
- Wager on Top Seeds — The number one seed has won 64% of the National Championships in history, including seven of the last 10 tournaments. While the top-seeded team isn’t a lock to win March Madness, betting on them is often a winning strategy.
- Don’t Expect the Top Four Seeds to Make the Final Four — Even though it seems logical that the top four seeded teams will make the Final Four, this has only happened once in the tournament’s history.
- Study NET Rankings — The NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) is a tool that ranks NCAAB teams based on a number of components. The three most prominent are the team’s winning percentage, opponent winning percentage, and average opponent’s opponent’s winning percentage. The higher a team’s NET ranking, the stronger team they’re considered to be.
- Don’t be Afraid to Bet On Underdogs — While higher seeded teams are favorites for good reason, that doesn’t mean their victories are guaranteed. March Madness averages 8.5 upsets per tournament, so you can potentially score a big win by betting on a lower seeded team.
- Use Live Betting Opportunities — Some sportsbooks offer live in-game betting as the game unfolds. So if you’re watching a game and feel like a particular team or player is going get hot, you can quickly place a live bet during the action to conceivably cash in on your intuition.
- Pay Attention to Home-Court Advantage — The fans can sometimes be the “Sixth Man” in college basketball. If a team ends up playing in its hometown/state, the crowd power can help it do better than expected.
