How We Rank Nevada Online Casinos

We identify the best Nevada online casinos based on several key factors, including our custom-built Jackpot Meter. Here are some of the key criteria we focus on:

  • Availability in Nevada — We focus on online casinos that are fully available in Nevada without restrictions. This includes promotions, transactions, and customer support.
  • Bonuses and Promotions — The top Nevada casinos provide promotions with fair terms. To evaluate these, we sign up, claim the offers, and play through them to see firsthand how realistic it is to turn a profit.
  • Entertainment — A great Nevada gambling site must bring enough excitement to rival the Las Vegas vibe. We look for a solid mix of slots, blackjack, roulette, and baccarat. Live dealer options and unique picks like Plinko also stand out. Some sites also excel in specific categories, like Bovada’s dedication to online poker or BetUS’s tips and tutorials.
  • Safety and Security — We prioritize sites with a solid track record, quality customer support, and data encryption. Naturally, sites licensed by reputable jurisdictions rank higher in our evaluations.
  • Payments — We ensure our recommended sites handle payments through secure processors. Cryptocurrencies are excellent for their speed, anonymity, lower fees, and added security. We also consider traditional payment options and ensure their policies are fair and transparent.

Nevada has state-regulated sites for online poker and online sports betting, but if you want to play casino games, you will have to use an offshore site. Of course, Nevada is well-known for its extensive land-based gambling options, though you might be surprised to know that Nevada is one of only five states that don’t have a state lottery.

As the first state to legalize gambling, Nevada is well-known for being open to gambling in multiple forms. That has extended to the online realm, as well. Here is a brief overview of the different ways you can bet online in Nevada:

Online Sports Betting

Nevada was the first state to launch online sports betting in 2011. Other states were not allowed to regulate sports betting because of PASPA, but that didn’t apply to Nevada, as it had already regulated sports betting before PASPA passed. You must visit a land-based sportsbook to register for an account.

Online Poker

Nevada was also the first state to launch an online poker platform, Ultimate Poker, in 2013. Delaware passed their online poker law before Nevada, but Nevada won the race for official launch.

Online Casinos

There are no state-regulated online casinos in Nevada. Some land-based casino owners, like Sheldon Adelson, opposed online casinos because they were afraid their brick-and-mortar operations would lose money. However, Nevada residents are free to access some offshore gambling sites. It is worth noting that some offshore sites, like Bovada and BetOnline, choose not to accept bettors from Nevada due to their own policies.

Daily Fantasy Sports

In 2015, Nevada’s Attorney General issued a notice to daily fantasy sports operators that required them to stop accepting Nevada bettors. According to the notice, daily fantasy sports constitutes gambling under Nevada law. FanDuel received its operator license in 2022, and there is one other option in US Fantasy, but both sites have significant restrictions.

All forms of land-based and online gambling in the state are overseen by the Nevada Gaming Control Board and the Nevada Gaming Commission. The board was created as part of the state’s tax commission in 1955, but the Gaming Control Act that passed in 1959 created the Gaming Commission, and gave the board more responsibility. Online gambling is primarily managed by the Nevada Gaming Commission, but they work jointly with the gaming control board as well.

The Nevada Gaming Control Act is the primary legislation that governs gambling in Nevada. The act was initially passed in 1959, but additional amendments have been passed since then to incorporate online gambling. Land-based gambling in Nevada includes casinos, sportsbooks, and commercial poker rooms. Charitable gambling is also allowed as long as all of the proceeds go to the designated charity. Horse racing is legal in Nevada, but there aren’t any active racetracks. You can still bet on horse racing from other locations at Nevada’s sportsbooks.

Nevada does not have a state lottery. There have been some efforts to legalize a lottery program, but the Nevada Resort Association has opposed these efforts. The most recent effort to legalize a lottery in Nevada was introduced in 2023 by Assemblyman Cameron Miller, but the soonest it could take affect would be 2026.

Nevada Gambling Timeline

2023
March

Assemblyman Cameron Miller introduced a bill (AJR5) to amend the state constitution to allow for a state lottery. This bill has been passed by committees in both the Assembly and Senate. As of May 2023, the bill is waiting for approval from the Secretary of State.

October

The Nevada Esports Technical Advisory Committee approved regulations for esports betting. These regulations need to be approved by votes from both the Nevada Gaming Control Board and the Nevada Gaming Commission before esports betting is allowed.

2021
December

The Nevada Gaming Control Board recommends that sports bettors should be allowed to register for an account remotely, instead of having to sign-up in person. The Nevada Gaming Commission considered the proposal in January 2022, but only approved remote registration for online poker.

2015
October

A.G. Burnett sent a notice on behalf of the Nevada Gaming Control Board to daily fantasy sports betting operators, explaining that DFS is gambling as defined by Nevada’s law. The operators were forced to stop accepting customers from Nevada until they were approved for a state gambling license.

2014

1931
March

Future of Gambling in Nevada

There is no doubt that gambling will remain a prominent part of life in Nevada. The tourism industry in Las Vegas is a vital part of the state’s economy, so casinos aren’t going anywhere. Most likely, Nevada will continue to expand, specifically when it comes to online gambling.

The first change you can expect to see is the approval of remote registration for sports betting sites. Nevada’s Gaming Control Board and Gaming Commission both approved remote registration for online poker sites in 2022. Hopefully, if the state can see a positive impact for the poker sites, they will consider adding sportsbooks too.

It is possible that Nevada will approve a state lottery by November 2026, but the bill has several hurdles to overcome before that happens. All other attempts to create a lottery have failed, so there is not much reason to believe this one will be different. We’d say the odds of a state lottery are about the same as the odds of Nevada regulating online casinos. They are both activities that the land-based casinos are opposed to, so it isn’t likely that either of those options will happen any time soon.

Gambling Responsibly

Approximately 66,000 adults, or 2.7% of the state’s population are estimated to have problem gambling symptoms in Nevada. Fortunately, the state has several services available to help treat and prevent problem gambling. Here are a few resources to get help in Nevada.
